Share your any experience of your life, in which you faced the emergency that could be handled by your own only if you know the basic first response skills.

Many years ago I faced a situation in which I played a role of first responder although I did not know even about basic first response skills. I don't know that how I had done that. I was the student of 5th class and exams were heading in my nearby exam center Basirpur city (okara). I was young and did not know that how to ride a bike. That's why my elder brother took me to my exam center on our bike. One day after paper we were coming back to home as our daily routine. Suddenly a dog came in front of our bike and my brother couldn't handled the bike. We fell down, by the grace of Almighty Allah I was protected from any kind of injury. But my brother was injured so much and the worsen one was of his arm injury. Upper layer of skin of my brother's elbow was injured badly.

My brother's arm was fully injured and blood was bleeding from the wound. I had a scarf which I used for covering the wound of my brother so bleeding could stop. After that Immediately we reached to a despensery located nearby village and checked the wounded to doctor. I was also feeling pain because my brother was in pain. First doctor clean the wound carefully and clear all the debris. Than doctor injected two injections, one of them was to prevent the wound from any kind of infection and another one was for giving relieve from pain. As scratches wounds are very painful so that pain killer are necessary for these situations. So this was my life experience in which I played a little role of first responder. Hopefully when this season will end I will learn many things about life saving skills.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving. There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario?

If I ever witness an accident on the road I will must do something for the injured person care as first responder because it is my duty as a citizen. I will do first response in following ways:

• In any kind of accident first of all I will call to emergency helpline for dealing with emergency situation. I will call 1122 which is most famous help line of my country.

• If I witness an accident first of all I will check my own safety because it is very necessary. If the condition is not favourable I will not involve in the matter. As it is road accident there may be pieces of glasses which can injured our body specifically our feet. So I will be very careful from the destroyed parts of bike and car. If the sorrounding environment will in my favour I will go to injured person in the accident and start the first response.

• If the injured person is concious I will ask for water. As by the course teacher the patient is unconscious I will go to him and carefully look the injured parts of his body.

• For making the sorrounding more relaxed I will ask to all gathered people to clear the sorrounding of injured patient so that air can be pass easily. If the condition of victim is critical I also ask any bystander for helping me in first response.

• Than I will check his injuries, the parts that are bleeding I will apply a pressure on the wounds by using clear cloth so that bleeding can be stoped. Stop of bleeding blood from wound is very important, and for preventing infection I will use clear piece of cloth.

• If the injured person have some parts fractured like leg, I will not move his leg without any severe need. In this situation I will recover his body posture.

• After doing first response I will check those vital signs of the injured person which I can done by hand. Like pulse rate, patient is breathing normally or abnormally.

Finally I will try to keep the situation calm and check the injured person repeatedly until the emergency help reaches. My this first response can prevent the patient from any kind of threatening situation until the medical professionals through emergency support do not come there.

Draw or Create an engaging illustration/flowchart of DRABC

Below is the flowchart of DRABC. First I have try to make it on canva but as I'm not using canva pro that's why I am facing some difficulty. Hopefully this flow chart will be accepted by course teacher.

Write down the numbers of emergency services of your country

In every country of the world there are some emergency services and mostly have there short helpline number. So that everyone can easily remember these numbers and can contact to these services in any emergency. Below are some emergency support contacts of my province Punjab (Pakistan).

For question 5, I have answered all the questions on Google form as well.
Conclusion

Friends first response is very crucial for saving a life in any emergency. By having basic skills of first aid response a person can a protect a life in any damger situation. In my country there's happen a lot that when there's any accident, a victim person died due to not giving first response. That's why we should have a basic knowledge of life saving skills and hopefully this complete course helps us a lot in learning these skills.

At the end I'm inviting @aaliarubab, @josepha and @pandora2010 for participating in this course contest.

I really felt for your brother arm at that particular time. It must have really been severe and with so much of pain your brother must have been feeling at that particular time and that is why we need to learn the principles of administering first aid treatment to people. Thank God you actually know about first aid treatment as that goes a long way to help you and that at that particular time also help to calm down the severe pain your elder brother might have been feeling. I also love the concept you used of scarf to help stop or reduce the bleeding because if the bleeding continues, it will result to too much of loss of blood which might have affected your brother also at the end of the day. You did a great job with that scarf.

You analyse carefully about what to do at first if one actually witnessed a road accident. The first thing I will also do is to make sure I call 911 the emergency line so that it can help come to the scene. It is very needed. Why one will be waiting for the emergency services to arrive, then I can start moving to make sure that the victim is in good and stabilise conditions. I also love how you analyse your flowchart for the DRABC. The first thing is to pay attention to the danger and then to the response of that victim before even moving to the breathing space. You actually do justice to this topic and I must confess I was able to learn a lot beyond I can ever imagine of. Thank you for sharing this

QuestionWhat the Student Did WellAreas for ImprovementGrading
Question 1Shared a personal experience involving a bike accident, demonstrating quick thinking in applying first aid to a family member. While the personal narrative is compelling, you could elaborate on the specific first aid steps taken, such as how you assessed the injury and what actions you considered essential for preventing further harm. Providing more context about the emergency response might enhance this section. The real question was that if you were a first responder at that time, what would have been different from what actually happened that day. Be sure to read the question before answering.[Grade: 1.2]
Question 2Outlined a clear strategy for responding to a road traffic accident, including checking safety and calling for emergency help.Ensure to follow the DRABC protocol closely. For example, include specific actions for assessing the injured person's consciousness and breathing without moving them, especially if there are potential spinal injuries. Expanding on how you would monitor the patient's condition until help arrives would strengthen your response. You didn't mention anything about checking for airway clearance or breathing and how you would assess both of these things. Also, we don't have to call the ambulance ourselves; rather, ask someone from the crowd to do so.[Grade: 0.8]
Question 3Created a flowchart of the DRABC protocol, meeting the assignment requirements. While the flowchart is a good start, adding more details to each step could make it more informative. Including visual cues or explanations that clarify each component of the DRABC protocol would enhance understanding for others who may view your work. Checking pulse rate or heart rate is not part of the breathing step; rather, it comes in the circulation step. And what do you mean by clearing the crown in the airway section?[Grade: 1.5]
Question 4Listed emergency service numbers relevant to Pakistan, fulfilling the assignment's requirements with a good range of contacts.Adding context for each number, such as the type of emergency situations for which each number is appropriate, would enhance clarity. Consider including additional services such as mental health support, crisis hotlines, child abuse/women's helplines, and national suicide prevention to broaden the scope of your resource list.[Grade: 1.0]
Question 5Completed the quiz with a good understanding of first aid concepts, answering 8 out of 10 questions correctly.Review the quiz questions you missed to improve your understanding of the DRABC protocol. A deeper grasp of how to apply these concepts in real-life scenarios would benefit future assessments.[Grade: 2.0]

General Feedback:
You displayed a commendable understanding of the importance of first response skills and demonstrated a willingness to improve. To further enhance your learning, consider focusing on the specific steps involved in the DRABC protocol and providing more comprehensive explanations in your responses. This will help in reinforcing your knowledge and improving your performance in future assignments.

Thank you.
