COMMON NAME: RED FLAGTAIL.
SCIENTIFIC NAME: SEMAPROCHILODUS
INSIGNIS.
THE AVERAGE ADULTS FISH SIZE: 14 Inches (35cm)
PLACE OF ORIGIN: Peru , Ecuador , Guyana , Brazil and Colombia.
TYPICAL AQUARIUM SET UP: Amazon riverine biotope with a driffwood or bogwood and rocks . They will eat any of soft leaved water plants and to attempt eat even a hard leaved water plants, so plants are probably out of question. Red Flag tail are so very good algae eaters so adequate lighting are helpful to promote they growth .
RECOMMENTED MINIMUM AQUARIUM CAPACITY: A juviniles up to 4 Inches or 7.5cm , can be housed in a 40 gallon or 160 litre , but if full grown adults will need a 100 gallon tank / 40 litre or a larger tank aquarium .
COMPATIBILITY : It is aggressive towards in own kind when it kept in small numbers, but it can be maintained in groups of 6 or more in the larger tanks otherwise it is best to kept as single specimen in a community of medium to larger fish . Suitable tankmates are include other large "Knife fish , Characins, Peaceful cichlids, arowana and fresh water stingray .

TEMPERATURE: 73 to 84 deg F / 23 to 29 deg C .
WATER CHEMISTRY : Ph 5.5 to 7.2
FEEDING: Though it is omnivorous its primarily a herbivours, Offer a plenty vegetable matter in a form of blached spinach , cucumber , algae wafers , lettuce and similar and it will also accept most good and quality dried foods and small frozen fare such as a "Brine shrimps , Daphnia and Bloodworms.

MATING: difficult to be mating , although mature females are said to be rounder bellied than males .
BREEDING: They are known as to be egg scatterness and migrate a long distances in the wild to spawn. Due to the large adult size it is unlikely they will spawn in the aquarium .
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/KNOWLEDGE: RED FLATAILS are the excellent jumpers, So much better to close in the top of you aquarium .
