Yeah volume and frequency are very important in your program design but a lot of the time your intensity will be a determining factor of the frequency and volume. Always want to make sure you have you have enough time to recover and so on.
But I think you have to find ways to keep challenging yourself. There's different ways you can intensify the workout or even just a specific movement to keep you seeing improvements in 1 physical skill or another. Its just the way your working will affect the results you get.
