Exercise For a Healthy Life

Exercise is an important component of a healthy lifestyle. This article will briefly review how adults can practically incorporate moderate exercise to significantly enhance their overall health and quality of life.

There are literally thousands of books and articles written on exercise and how it improves our health and chances for a long life. Common among these writings are some very key characteristics of any workout regimen for the average adult.

First, start slowly, and if you have any medical condition that has caused you to see a doctor, advise the doctor that you are exercising and what you intend to do.

Among the best exercises to begin your routine is walking.

A brisk thirty to forty minute walk four times a week is a terrific way to start. After a few weeks you might want to either increase your frequency or length of time.

To avoid boredom, start to add variety, such as a very slow jog, a bike ride, or an exercise machine, especially if the weather prevents you from being outside.

The key to this routine and the aerobic benefit that will result is frequency and duration. Four times a week and thirty to forty minutes are sufficient for a significant benefit. More strenuous exercise is permitted, but not necessary for the health benefits to accrue. After a time, you can add strength training to your workout routine. Just as with the aerobic training, strength workouts with free weights or machines should be initiated with very light resistance, and gradually increased over many months.

With a little discipline, this four times-per-week, 30 minute exercise will yield significant benefits.
