With Memorial Day being Monday May 28th, 2018 it is time to take a second out of our busy lives and think about the men and women of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives to defend the great country that we live in.

Crossfits Hero WOD

If you are even slightly familiar with CrossFit you have probably heard of the Hero WOD (Workout of the Day) “Murph”. I would venture to say that “Murph” is one of the most well known workouts in the CrossFit community. The workout consist of 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and then a 1 mile run to finish it off. Generally this workout is completed with a twenty pound weight vest on just to up the ante. This workout is a complete mental and physical grind, you just have to put your head down, enter the pain cave and go to work.

The Protector

Now that we have explained the components of the workout let's talk about who Michael Patrick Murphy was. Lt. Michael Murphy was a United States Navy Seal who was awarded the U.S. Medal of Honor for his service during the War in Afghanistan. Lt. Murphy was killed in Action on June 28th, 2005 after his four man team had been compromised and surrounded by taliban Forces near Asadabad, Afghanistan. Lt. Murphy paid the ultimate price when he left his covered position to get to a higher point that was out in the open so that he would be able to get a call out on his sat phone so that he would be able to call for reinforcements for his team. Lt. Murphy was fatally wounded while making the phone call, and will forever be remembered as a true American Hero. Danny Dietz, and Matthew Axelson who were members of Lt. Murphys team were also killed in Action during the firefight. Marcus Luttrell was the only surviving member of the team that survived the encounter. Attached you will find the link for a speech that Marcus Luttrell gives that gives me goosebumps every time I watch it!.

So This Weekend if your going to be joining in the fun and tackling “Murph” when you hit that wall in the workout and you feel like you just can not go any further think about the sacrifice that Lt. Murphy and his team made, and the reason that you are putting yourself through such a grueling workout. If your not doing the workout then just take a second out of your day and say Thank you for all the men and women of the armed forces that have made the sacrifice protecting our homeland, so that you may continue to live in the LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE!

Thank you for reading, and have a fabulous weekend! -Ericstotle

Murph was a legend and a remarkable man taken too soon.

Remembering the fallen, and everyone who have served (and still do) is incredibly important.

Bless you for posting this in a political correct world that has to be resisted at any cost in the name of civilized freedom. Have a gooden
