Myth: "if I weight train I will build muscles overnight like a bodybuilder"

Fact
This myth is so far away from the truth. There are many articles written on the subject. However most women shy away from weight training with the fear that they will grow muscles too fast.

In my experience it varies.It depends on the woman, her individual biochemistry, body type, previous training history, what type of strength training she is doing, how often she is training.

However due to this fact it may take years for women to achieve the look as being muscular or bulky to the likes of a bodybuilder. In the pictures that we see of bodybuilders, the reality is they have been training approximately 5 to10 years to achieve the body they have.

There's still another fact. Most women don't high enough testosterone levels naturally to develop the same amount of muscles as males.

So the question remains how does weight training help you lose weight?

What will weight training do for you

Studies have shown that after a weight-training workout, metabolism can be boosted for up to 38 hours post-workout.
This means that rather than burning, 60 calories an hour while sitting and reading your favorite book you're burning 70 Cal 70.

You may say that 10 extra calories is a not such a big deal. However when you multiply 10 Cal by 38 hours that's 380cal you have burned by just doing nothing!

Training tips
If you're never trained with weights before start off slow. Use weights that are manageable for you.
If you can do 15 to 20 reps with the weights it's too light for you.
If you have difficulties doing 4-5 reps it's too heavy.

Focus more on your larger muscle groups. Legs, back, chest.

The more you work the larger muscle groups the more calories you would burn the faster results in losing weight.

Correct form is important. You can always go to YouTube and you can find many videos that can show you the right exercises that you're trying to perform.

So ladies the next time you go to the gym try something different. I'm not saying to give up on cardio. However you can mix up your exercise routine. A little cardio with weight training.
