Atlanta's annual 4th of July Peachtree Road Race is a 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) run down one of the city's busiest streets, which spans from downtown Atlanta all the way to Buckhead at the top of the city. Here's a map of the run:
A YUUUUGE bigly flag, as the President(sic) would say, flies over the starting line because 'MERICA!
60,000 participants show up to run, walk, and show their patriotism. This doesn't include all the sideline cheerleaders showing their support with clever banners (i.e. IF TRUMP CAN RUN SO CAN YOU), loud music, live bands, free beer, and of course water sprinklers to keep cool in the 85 degree heat.
By far the best cool-down sprinkler was the one sponsored by this local church:
The Priest was even standing on the sideline personally sprinkling blessed water from a bowl onto excited race participants.
Other notable sideline spectacles included a group of drunk astronaughts posing for photos:
The Peachtree has water stations every mile, and we all got a kick out of the legal littering!
This has been my 2nd year participating in this fantastic holiday tradition, and the universal excitement continues to grow. Maybe next year I'll even run it... maybe...
Cheers!
Kate
