@polebird: ❤️ Getting tangled and flexy in Aerial silks - dtube video ❤️

in fitness •  7 years ago  (edited)

YAY!!! I took an aerial silks class! This was my 3rd or 4th silks class. It's been a while since I did a class (over half a year) because I devote a lot of my time to pole (and steemit!), but I do want to spend more time this year cross training in the different aerial arts.

Aerial silks consists of two long fabrics, and the aerialists will climb, wrap, drop, make beautiful shapes, and do all sorts of crazy awesome stuff in the air with the fabric. I love how the fabrics drape beautiful as the artists twirl in the sky. As a beginner though, sometimes the fabric gets tangled as I try to manuever it. At one point I got stuck hahah and the instructor had to untangle me! I put together a few clips from class of the tricks I learned. Hope you enjoy it - I had a lot of fun in class. :)

This move is called man on the moon. Or, should we say polebird on the moon!

This next one is called butterfly! Getting into the trick involved using a dancer's foot lock, pulling the silks in a criss cross wide enough to get the body through and flipping through the hole. TA DAAA, I'm a butterfly!

Thank you for watching! Any other Steemians tried some of the aerial arts?

i still haven't tried aerial arts but I've always wanted to take a class! coming from a yoga and acroyoga background, and dabbling in things like rock climbing and slacklining, I've met a few friends that do it - so definitely has my interest! I just haven't taken the leap yet - but watching your videos and reading about the different techniques and positions is definitely making me more and more curious to find out firsthand! will have to sign myself up for a class!

I'm right there with you, squirrelfriend. My experience dabbles in yoga, pole and rock climbing and aerial silks look so. freaking. fun! Looks like there are plenty to try out in my area, but I am currently working through my holiday groupon gifts to try out a few other exercise studios so I will likely not be starting for a few months yet.

I'll be keeping an eye out for your blog post about your first class! ;)

i literally laughed out loud at squirrelfriend , hahah. a friend of mine used to call me squirrel anyway hehe. I've been doing so much traveling and bouncing around that I've barely had time for my regular hobbies. but yes, its definitely on my list!! i spend a lot of hobby time dancing (latin dance - so fun!) have you tried?!

I LOVE to dance, but have done very little formal anything with it. I love latin and hip hop dance and have always been interested in learning how to belly dance! But besides figure skating when I was a child and an introductory pole fitness class, I've never really had anyone coach my dancing (well, there was that Zumba class...)

Squirrelfriend is my favorite right now. It has meaning to the drag community (love you Mama Ru!) but it is just too cute that I say it far too many people hehe.

heheheh - love it too! omg i was at a dragshow just a couple of days ago! and the performances were OUTSTANDING!! literally so much "YAS QUEEN" being shouted from all over the room:)

as far as dance goes, tango nuevo is the love of my life! its basically contemporary tango, danced to contemporary music, and often blended with other forms of dance (called fusion sometimes). I like to mix it with blues, salsa, west coast swing, and have learned a tidbit of zuok and kizomba as well. i also had a taste of vienna waltz last month and would loveeeeeee to learn more. its so elegant and beautiful!!!!

Yaaaaaas! Do you watch RuPaul's Drag Race? Season 3 All-Stars are giving me everything. Trixie Matel better get her crown!

hehehe i dont, but only because i don't watch any tv really :) i have seen tidbits of episodes though, i usually watch my tv in bite sized segments in youtube or Facebook clips. but oh so fun, love a good night of drag ;p

!!!!!! Yes! So not to get too off topic, you know drag race alum Violet Chachki does aeriel arts!

Btw, here's my conspiracy theory about All Stars 3.

aww ..... you guys!! You both are squirrelfriends <3 I love it! Or flying squirrelfriends to be!! I'm so happy to have inspired you both to try some flying arts. Really warms my heart. Pole and aerial arts has truly developed into such a passion for me! Ah I would love to see some of you guys's dance moves as well. Dance is such a beautiful art and form of expression with the human body.

i am in 100% agreement :) i was trying to keep my interests tamed down to 1-2 for posting about since eclecticism doesn't always entertain everyone in the same way it does me ;p but really i might just let loose - in which case be ready for an onslaught of tango videos, guitar jam nights, and motorcycle diaries hehehe :)

also how cool is it that we're all here doing a knowledge share of our different arts - its different than the pure instructional nature of youtube "how to's" because of the unique interaction levels seem tends to bring out in people. i kind of love it! i think a steemit fest is totally in my future - and would be cool to gather with all the yogis and aerial artists, slack liners and dancers, and have an activity corner where we all just have our own form of a steep circus ;p
that would be amazing!

hahaha I think random is great! My blog is random because I am eclectic. :) So many hobbies and too little time -- and I actually have more hobbies I want to post about LOL. I look forward to seeing it all! Steem fest - acro play circus style would be SO much fun :P

A great art. It takes skill and special practice to be able to do the art of flying in the air. Hopefully you are more successful in this art field @polebird.
