Why should you do Planks?

in fitness •  7 years ago  (edited)

Most people assume that if your not labouring with a heavy barbel stacked with weights its not working out. While I definitely believe in strenths training, and resistatance training with weights I also think there is much value in body weight exercises , such as planks. Planks are one of the easiest and basic fundamental movements but are so full body encompassing. planks engage your core, your abs, obliques, lats, serratus, your lower back muscles including your erector and gluteal muscles.

Planks can be done anywhere, and in short bursts. I try to do them first thing in the morning and supplement them to my post workout stretch/cool down.

Do them in 3 to 5 sets. Try to hold the position for about 30-50 seconds each set.

Advanced option- on my tough chest or back days I like to do planks in the sauna ( get that extra burn son..)

This is my first post on Steemit, Im novice to this whole premise but I'm 34 years and have been in martial arts and fitness since the age of 6 so while i may not know much about steemit and its norms or culture I do know fitness and NO I dont sell fitness or weight loss programs..lolol you don't need a program or fancy tracker, you just need to do it.
I hope at least one person gets value out of my post. IMG_20170521_142404_944.jpg
