The hardest part of starting a new routine is just that - starting. My weight and fitness are things I've always struggled with. I want to have a healthy weight and a healthy active lifestyle but I also love food and I'm lazy. I can be honest about that.
I love food, I love to eat, and I love doing nothing.
But there comes a point for everyone where they're just too unhappy with themselves to keep doing nothing. I've reached that part several times. For the last six or so years, I've exercised and switched up my eating habits periodically. I always do really well for a period, but then the laziness creeps up and whispers in my ear like an old friend and my motivation blows away with the wind. Then the part of me that was really happy with the progress I was making with my workouts and my strength and my body spends months trying to coax the rest of me back into it, and it steadfastly ignored.
Until I hit that point again.
By this point, I've accepted my shortcomings and now I'm just trying to learn to manage my lapses in motivation. I've learned that I just need to let myself have a week or two - or three, I mean it really depends. Then it's a matter of starting the routine from the top.
I'm currently at that point again. It's a bit different this time, in that I've actually been working out for the last few months, but I haven't been eating as well as I normally do. Now I'm coming off a two week break. This time around, I want to start eating a lot better and taking my workouts more seriously. I want to really commit myself. I need to find a way to get myself back to that point where I was genuinely enjoying working out.
The beginning really is the hardest part.
