When searching for a personal trainer the potential client should first consider this question. Am I looking for a Trainer, Instructor or Coach? Your goals and personality type should help you answer this. The Trainers roll is to minimize the risk of injury while insuring proper movement patterns and muscle recruitment. The Instructor will make you stronger, faster and/or more powerful. The Instructor demands muscle compliance. A great Instructor will institute lessons and drills that safely tests limitations. The coach creates clear cut direction and expectations. Holds his athletes accountable if they veer of path. A Coach is there to groom the athlete through means of behavioral modification.
If you want to get a great burn then maybe a Trainer that's concerned with precision movement isn't for you.
Trainer (Tutor)- If you want to move better
Instructor (Drill Sargent)- If you want to look better
Coach (Counselor) - If you want to be better
