The Dangers of Fun

As somebody who for a while pursued Ataraxia I should be rather condescending about this excellent post by @krnel but the truth is that even I came to see the the light after a while and moved on from ataraxia to stoicism, which places harmony with the surroundings in a more central spot.

Approaching fun and pleasure from the angle of mind control, with a little bit of Seinfeld thrown in, @krnel points us at the dangers contained by the search for pleasure in The Pleasure Trap Can Make Us Apathetic.

Being focused mainly on pleasure, enjoyment and having fun, is like someone who watches a crime being committed in front of them and does absolutely nothing. This is worse than the bystander effect of not getting involved when someone needs help. Maybe you have seen that in your own life?

The hunt for pleasure is something often dictated to us, in totally hypocritical ways btw, by society, by corporate, and by whichever Gen Y unique snowflake (pre-fake news and alt-reich snowflakes) yet it also is a rotten suggestion since society does bias/brainwash everyone with its own definitions, suggestions, and our own supposed expectations.

@krnel takes no prisoners when he talks about the topic and would eventually piss off each ataraxic by showing them the downside from their hunt for happiness, when not driven also by a healthy dose of living in harmony and virtues.

If you can stomach it, and aren’t a Millennial snowflake, head over to both @krnel’s and @tarazkp’s posts, which may seem opposing yet are entirely related, and chime in on the topic:
