Understanding Homeless People and Their Habits

A justified rant, and great comments thread, by @geekpowered about why he occasionally gives spare change to homeless people when he encounters them:

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but once I give a homeless guy some money, it's his. He/she can spend it on whatever they want. This includes drugs or alcohol.

If I was stuck on the street every night in filthy clothes, begging for a few bucks to get a meal, your damn fucking right I would spend a few bucks every once in a while on something to numb my senses, or take a bit of the pain away.

Obviously I am biased in this topic, having worked alongside homeless people as one of the original team members who opened the Emmaus community in Preston (UK).

It is easy to blame rough sleepers over their habits, their addiction but it is even easier to do so without trying to understand their actual lives and what they do not have, a structure.

Hey there, this is @FknMayhem's alt account.

Here I mostly tumbl (resteem with added commentary and attitude or snark, a form of advanced curation Steem doesn't offer), zapp, post to forums, and submit other miscellaneous mischief. The latter which may or may not include more personal content.

There may be days it can be noisy around here, follow at your own risk. Alternatively, follow my attempts at more in-depth own content on my main account, @FknMayhem.

I am also on zeh Titter. Feel free to pitch me your worthy suggestions there. But make them worth my time. Once Steemit has an option to integrate `beneficiaries` when posting, 50% of each curated post’s rewards will go to the original content creator.
