Flash Flood Watch Some Rain Heat Humidity Sunday
While many areas to the west and north of Long Island have been clobbered by rain over the last 3 days and for that matter for the last 2 weeks, Long Island has seen relatively little of it. Over the last 3 days more than 1/2 a foot of rain has fallen just west of NYC. Very few of the heavy downpours that have been pounding areas in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley have made it to us.
Just in the last 24 hours rainfalls to the west of NYC have been on the order of 2 inches plus with flash flooding while Long Island has received next to nothing. That should change shortly as the rain on the radars are pivoting slowly to the east. The humidity here has been outrageously high making it feel like we are in South Florida. Little relief from the humidity is ahead.
EASTERN SATELLITE LOOP
Even though a flash flood watch is posted I'm wondering from how the radar looks this morning how much rain we are actually going to see. My own view is that the rain weakens as it moves east. Some areas could see a half inch to an inch..others may see far less. It all moves away later this afternoon. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Sunday Monday and Tuesday bring hot temperatures with highs reaching the upper 80s to lower 90s with slightly lower readings along the shore thanks to an rather ineffective sea breeze. If it doesn't rain today it is not likely to rain Sunday into Tuesday. The next cold front is not due until Tuesday night. Sunshine is forecast for the next 3 days.
