Maintaining principles mean a new trial for Chauvin is required.

It doesn't matter that I'm entirely on board with Chauvin serving 22 and a half years in prison for what he did to George Floyd. I was expecting more. I was kinda hoping for more. Still, in reality, a cop who is sent to prison for murdering a black man while on duty - I don't think he'll last six weeks aside from being in solitary confinement perpetually.

I do need to stick my neck out again though because principles aren't principles only when they're convenient to exercise and they can't be handled on a case to case bases. If principles aren't applied universally they're not principles.

If Chauvin doesn't get a new trial due to the fact that a juror literally admitted to lying in order to get onto the jury in order to convict Chauvin, we don't believe in due process and fair trials. We only believe in them when we like the defendant which means that it's no longer a principle.

I don't like the defendant. I don't think that the outcome of a new trial would be much different. I do think that a new trial is necessary lest we lose any integrity that our criminal justice system has.
