In all the decades I've been getting an annual flu shot, this is the first time I can remember having a reaction. (I'm fine now, other than being up with insomnia.) Not anything serious--a little nausea, headache, some fatigue and, I realized in retrospect, just a bit of a fever. Almost a normal vacation day, for me.
It was within twenty-four hours of getting my allergy shots, but I doubt that's connected unless I'm allergic to needles.
The way I see it, since I haven't had my knee operated on like Emily, I don't have any room to complain. Beowulf is keeping me company ... well, he was until I finished my toast, then he rolled over and went to sleep.
I once got totally knocked out by a flu shot. For a week or so I was a wreck. After that I never took a flu vaccination - and never got the flu again.
Lets hope yours works better and actually prevents a flu infection. The Covid shots seem to be pretty useless, as it transpires now.

In the last twenty years, I've missed getting a flu shot only once--and that's the only time I ever got the flu. But I'm with you on the Covid shot: You can still get it, you can still spread it, but maybe you won't get quite as sick. Also, when I got the Covid shot I was sick as hell for a couple of days.

I was wondering, did you - being employed in the public service - get forced to get the vaccination? Here they are talking of doing that. Well, you don't get forced formally, but if you don't get it you get fired or suspended or something. Which in result is the same as being forced.

No, there's been no requirement here so far. I've had mine (boy, did I get sick), but one of my shift partners is an anti-vaxxer. If a requirement did come down, I'd imagine she'll quit, which would be bad because we can never find good dispatchers.

I didn't have my shot yet, and the way its going, I dont see much sense in getting it. Now, while over 60% of the population is vaxed, we have more new infections than ever before. And yet they are putting more and more pressure on the people to get vaxed. Meanwhile they change the narrative all the time. For example, do you remember the big scare about the virus variants, that they get more dangerous and all? Nobody is talking about that anymore. So the virus must have stopped mutating, right? Or they were just talking out of their ass, like usual.

I know just what you mean. We didn't get ours until very late, when it seemed like at least the shots weren't going to make us grow a second head. But it seems the only advantage is that when you get it, you'll just get a little sick instead of a lot sick, and sometimes not even that.
My question is this: If you can still get it, still carry it, and still spread it, but might not be as symptomatic ... then is it possible that the vaccination might cause MORE spread, among people who think they're safe? I think the anti-vaxers have some good points, in this case.

Well, I decided to wait and see what happens. Since I am retired and don't need to go anywhere, I can do that without running into trouble. For now...

Being able to isolate is certainly an advantage! Sadly, I had to continue working through the whole thing. And (as I predicted), it's nowhere near over yet. Too bad my correct predictions are always bad.
