Flume’s style of Production

in flume •  6 years ago

Flume has always been one of my favorite producers, his style is really similar to Ekali but I feel that his way of handling synths still stand out more than Ekali’s. His sound is majorly based on the really well designed synths he’s famous for, and also weird characteristics to his music such as arrangement style and percussion use.

He loves to alternate his sounds alot, making it distorted and weird sometimes but still remaining the timbre that is needed for the tracks he puts out. What I realize is that with his production style, it really is super unorthodoxed, the synths and percussions are purposely off tempo for abit, to create a dragging effect, and to make his sounds more “Natural”, just like a virtuoso integrating rubato into his/her playing.

For those who want to explore how the best producers utilize synths, I would highly recommend checking artists such as Flume, Ekali or Slumberjack; these are the producers that I feel have a different way of tackling what synths can be used for or how they make the synths.
