Ways to Bug-Proof Your House

Some bugs found in the environment make their way into a home and start breaking down the home, making it more like their natural home. A new house can look run down in just a few months without immediate intervention. Although most bugs are ecologically important to the environment and balance nature, coexistence inside is not an option. Here are ways to bug-proof your house.

Take Care of Screens

Install screen openings on windows and doors with a fine mesh that can open for ventilation purposes. Regular maintenance is necessary to ensure that tiny bugs do not crawl into the spaces as the mesh becomes older and broader. However, after some repairs and purchasing a new one will ensure that the corner gaps are closed again. Between replacements, and repairs, use an indoor bug zapper close to the screens with trouble to zap any bug finding its way inside.

Install Door Sweeps

When doing maintenance, ensure that the door does not have gaps to let flying through and fits correctly. Install door sweepers at the base of all doors leading outside to ensure that no bugs can crawl their way into the house. Test it by checking to see if there is no light penetrating underneath it. Use rubber seals to the base of garage doors and skip the vinyl used as it cannot fit down as a rubber seal. If the garage door is the main entry point in the house, use a fly zapper indoor gadget to zap mosquitos and bugs that come when it's opened since the garage takes time closing, giving time for bugs to get inside.

Fill Cracks

Many homeowners concentrate on filling cracks to keep out lizards and rodents. However, small cracks can host bugs and are a great breeding place for many. Use silicone or acrylic latex to professionally cover the spaces before painting them over. Invest in a mosquito killer before starting the works to ensure that it zaps them once they are out in public looking for other "safe" spots in the house.

Repair Leaking Pipes

Water damage from leaking pipes creates invisible entryways for bugs and pests, especially mosquitos to enter the home. Broken pies also avail water readily for the populations to thrive and reproduce. Inspect the water meter when all water points are closed to see if it's still moving. If it's substantial, immediately look for the leakage and repair it immediately.

Seal All Utility Openings

Utility openings usually bore into the walls to connect to essentials such as gas meter, water, and laundry. It also creates homes that can easily be home to mosquitoes and flies. Fill in with a suitable sealant. Use indoor bug zappers to get any other bug in the home after.

Use Airtight Containers

Airtight containers for storage of food in the kitchen will ensure that bugs especially fruit flies do not follow the thread to get to the food. Keep cooked food in the refrigerator to ensure it remains cold and does not attract flies. When bug-proofing your house, appreciate the important role the little buggers play in the environment.

By incorporating ways to bug-proof your house, the hose becomes less attractive, discouraging the bugs from finding their way inside. Bug proofing and to an extent pest-proofing goes a long way to save on costs of repairs and renovations as the stains and breakdown of building structure that come with it are eliminated. Bug proofing also helps reduce energy consumption in the hope of helping to save money as all small crawl spaces where they hide and multiply are closed.
