Follow 4 Follow - If that triggered you, chill out.

Ranting at the Ranters

No, I don't want to follow for follow and although I agree it isn't the best way to make friends, if it really triggers you that hard - check your trigger.

Remember not everyone here is from the same cultural background and some may have different standards on how to communicate. There could be cultural differences in when it is or isn't polite to ask for a vote.  (something most of us want) English isn't everyone's first language, and some people may have needs you don't even understand.  A few American pennies might mean something different to someone else.  Even if they are not the best writer in the world - your Shakespeare like writing and perfect grammar will just stand out a bit more against their sad attempts at jumbling up the English Language.

Yes, I realize how important your time is and their pathetic attempt at writing greatly offends your brain.  OMG - That terrible scum bag is trying to figure out how to earn on this platform and they didn't get it right the first time?  Go rest your and eye-balls and exhausted scroll fingers.

If they included a link  OH NO.  I am not saying you should follow them or vote for them, or even stop posting about it.  Seriously to me it sounds like a combination of self-importance with a heavy dose of something a bit similar to having no clue what anyone else's circumstances are and expecting them to conform to yours.  That is right I am annoyed at your annoyance.  Really Unreasonable.

What makes your post about their behavior anymore interesting then their post, or this post?

Maybe you should check your trigger.  I should check mine.

I have seen you around here before, but after I read this post you really got me, could because I'm one of those steemians that offend others with my bad english writting, I'm a mexican woman trying to understand the crypto world and I have felt like I don't belong here, like a fish out of water, anyway thanks for writing this 😊

I am glad you are here, and I hope you do extremely well. There are some who are not welcoming. I think we should all look for ways to create win/win situations.

Thank you and that is what makes a community ❤

it seems to happen with most of the non english speaking people. i sometimes feels the same as you,,more over when i am still on my earliest days. keep comenting and engganging. i might dont get enough reward, but i feel good when i managed to help the other, or even if we could make a friend in this lovely site.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one that feels like this, we just need to find our place in this sea :D

yes we are. hopely we can have fun while earning in this site.😃

And yet your English and writing seem to far exceed many of the other pieces I've seen here. I don't think you have too much to worry about in that regard.

Thank you, it's nice to know that my english doesn't completely suck XD (just kidding)

Fist off I like your tags on this post! Well done. Second I completely understand your thoughts and have been having similar ones myself, in terms of people new to steemit and unsure what is acceptable to do and what is not. But there is a right way and a wrong way. My first day, I spammed a post and did not know you should not do that. It was about the same topic so in my comment I posted a link to my post. The author politely told me not to spam her page and that if I wanted her to read my article she would be glad to check them out in chat. There is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. As this platform grows, we need to help those on a global level, but we also should not feel bad for discouraging that kind of behavior. People need to be told otherwise it will continue to happen. Great topic!

Thank you for noticing the tags... lol. I thought about them. Yes, I agree about correcting the behavior, my opinion is a few words will usually do the trick.

Everyone is going to have to figure out how to set some boundaries.

Exactly!

oops... i included a link to my post in a comment on someone elses post earlier...is that frowned upon round these parts? does one comment count as spam? just seemed like my post was disappearing off the bottom off the page and i wanted more than my 3 or 4 followers to see it... only started here yesterday... ah well.. i'll get there in the end i guess...

Follow for a follow does not give you the followers you are looking for. there are a lot of steemiansd with 800 followers who have posts that brind not even a dollar, and you have one with 400 followers who make 100 dollar. It is not about the quantity of followers, it is about the quality. If you ask me there is one way to get good followers, and that is posting and commenting!

Hmm, okay.. I will work on finding some. (lol)

Triggered by other peoples triggers...I'm going to one up you and be triggered by your triggering fro mm their triggers ;-) . I thought I was getting close to being triggerless but then steemit came along and I have become pretty emotionally invested in it and what do you know? I can still be triggered. :-)

Your quote: "I thought I was getting close to being triggerless but then steemit came along and I have become pretty emotionally invested in it and what do you know? I can still be triggered. :-)"

I had this same conversation with myself, before I posted this... I lost and my triggers won. :)

following! :)

Haha thanks, you might remember me from my HF19 bithcing, HF19 has become my trigger word X-D It's ok though I'm going to beat that one too

I'm glad I didn't touch on that during my little episode. :)

Spammers and scammers. Every culture has those. Nobody likes being scammed. Follow for follow seems innocent enough if you prefer to treat that number like a statistic. I'd prefer people follow my work because they like it so I prefer not to go on the follower hunt. I wouldn't want to disappoint them with some strange art and oddly humorous ramblings anyway.

I think because I take such a different approach to this whole blogging thing, it's best if people discover me the way they do. To each their own though, right!

I do agree, I agree, I even get annoyed. The last few days we have had this guy in voice. (you know who you are if you read this) He goes on three or four-minute rants about how many follow comments he gets. I want to scream... YOU ARE SPAMMING MY EARS.

Oh oh, I guess my post is not only unreasonable, unpopular view, it is also passive-aggressive.

At least it is in the blockchain. (grins)

Once people start seeing accounts with 10000 followers and very little posting going up for sale to the highest bidder, then they'll see what's really going on here. As for voice chat, I haven't been there, but I hear there's a lot of drama! Not sure I'd fit in there.

Not everyone can take it, and it isn't for everyone. Personally, I have learned a lot there. If I had to try to understand which conflicting posts have real information. I don't really get to worked up over conflict.

I also turn it down when it is plain old drama. I don't mind hearing a loud and passionate debate though.

I used to spend a lot of time on a playstation 3 headset being yelled at by children during a hockey game...

I think I'll need a few more years to recover.

ha ha - I could almost hear it.

One of Steemit's greatest strengths is that its voting is self-correcting. It is quite literally becoming what its members collectively want it to become.

This site has immense potential.

Agreed, it will all settle out. I see others and me (dang it) wanting to control it, but I think it might just get out of control. How exciting is that?

I'm at my happy place right now. Great post. Was actually about to write something similar today. You beat me to it. Steem on!

Thanks @cem.

I'm a non-native speaker. Thanks for being a sounding board for probably hundreds of non-natives. Yes F4F is annoying. And it is true that a few dollars for some mean a lot almost like a lifeline. However this may also just be an issue of user education/awareness. But your point I guess is on triggers and pet peeves. I believe Steem as positive community it claims to be. People will help people.. either teaching how to be good neighbors, or how to succeed in this platform.

Thanks!

To be clear, I don't think everyone has to accept it, I just think getting really worked about it is overkill. A simple please stop (1st time) would likely work for most. ;) I don't pretend to be "the one" who decides how to deal with it.

that's the beauty of social media in general.. one can voice out their opinions. One thing I love about steem is it doesn't have that much negativity as in the other hate-promoting platforms. Yes we all don't want to get downvoted in Steem but being in an incentive-based platform does help. People may say it's superficial but do it for a long time and you'll get used to just being positive. Thnks for a thought provoking post.

"your Shakespeare like writing and perfect grammar will just stand out a bit more against their sad attempts at jumbling up the English Language."

LOL... Yes, i totally agree, some oldies just don't understand newbies, they can be annoying but come on, they are just arrived!, i think there should be a little more tolerance to them...

Imagine what will happen when steemit goes mainstream and we will get x100 the amount of newbies we are getting today?

I do imagine it. I am loving watching the balance between earning and the understanding that to attract an audience we should be nice to our newbies.

I can't wait to watch the journey.

Yep, pretty much that's it... If we want this to grow, we should be nice to new users...

Well said. Surely the democratisation offered by steemit should override pettiness and bias

Thank you.

Very true.... But for the ones who just run behind $ will find it hard to accept.... :) happy steeming

lol.. money, follows, everyone has an agenda.

Yup... But some see it as a community with strong future too

Agreed

:) glad you do :)

@whatsup..
I think the trigger is necessary for some things, but we have to see and assess the triggers.
Posting extraordinary friend and have a nice day
Thank you for sharring.

Thank you Sir, Have a great day as well. Thank you for reading and commenting on my post. ;)

Follow me! ;)

I've written about this. I just don't see it as productive to follow masses of people (7000 in one case I saw). Steemit doesn't give us the tools to handle the flood of posts. There is a dash for cash here, especially for those who cannot expect to earn much generally. I've seen this sort of follow spam elsewhere and it can get out of control. I'm just hoping we can 'nip it in the bud' here. I'll try to chill out a bit :)

lol, me too. I realize this was the most unreasonable post ever. However, I couldn't hold it in.

I understand the concerns. :)

Thanks for your post - of course here from all countries, and so many use an interpreter (this is normal).

Haha!! Amen sister. @therealpaul and I were just discussing this. And actually the only reason I cringe when I see comments like that is because I know there are people out there blowing gaskets about it and these poor clueless folk might get their battleship sunk before it leaves the harbor.

Have you been finding the new voting/voting power thing tough? @beanz just put up an awesome post, it's an experiment I'm jumping on board--just as soon as my power gets back up. And I'm telling you this because I am going to leave this post in my browser so I can vote on it, but I am having to use incredible restraint right now in not voting at all for the next ten or twelve hours (yikes)

I saw her post and really liked it. I too am still working on figuring out how I want to vote now. ;)

(However there is a difference between people who just don't know what they're doing, and those who are clearly intelligent Americans copy/pasting the same con artist-y phrase over and over)

Very good post @whatsup and a good reminder to everyone not to judge a book by its cover. As you say, there are a lot of people trying to work out how to make steemit work for them and as with the real world, we in the west often fail to realize the impact that can be felt by something that in our lives is taken for granted.

Though I don't do this myself I think that in some cases, especially among the new users, this is actually quite a successful way of building up a 'following' and seems to be used as a support mechanism among newer users who are happy to use these practices to get a foothold on the platform.

Perhaps once this foothold is gained they are able to have a positive impact on the platform.

Essentially though, judge lest ye be judged and if it isn't doing anyone any harm what is the problem? If you don't want to follow for follow then don't. Simple! :)

Thanks again. Hope your day is going well!

Love the attitude and gave you a follow.

Thank you @whatsup! Hope your day is going well my friend!

I'm liking your content more and more as I continue to read. I'm always honoured when someone leaves a comment and tries to interact with me on some level. It means they made an attempt, and although I may not followforfollow I'll certainly check them out!

I feel us English speakers are a bit elitist in our linguistic ways. Most countries use our language as a go-between, it's the spoken language of business, we are very lucky. I'm never judgemental when someone tries to speak my language and they aren't quite getting there. It makes no odds, they tried, and that's all that matters. They will get better. At least they are trying, right?

God forbid I went onto any other platforms and tried speaking their language! Hahah

And yes, cultural differences are a good point to make, even between Americans and the British. I've visited America before and women will walk right up to me and be like, "wooow, you're hot dude, want to hook up (we're talking about in my 20s when I was slim, and single, more than a decade ago), and here, in Britain, we're a more reserved society. Women do the fluttering of lashes and wait.

Great post!

Thank you very much..

These people are just trying. It doesn't mean we have to lift them up to excessively high levels, but I don't see the point in which we have to shame people who don't understand our difficult to understand cultural differences.

Thank you for a great comment.

That's exactly it. Why shame people that are trying? At least they are making an attempt to learn. I have one rule on my feed. Be respectful and ye will be respected ;)

I like it. I had a thought today. If my kids were hungry would I post links if I needed to. You bet.

I am not trying to play the puppies and kittens baby tear jerker story. We have to understand this isn't an equal opportunity platform. Meaning it means something different to someone else than it means to me. (Like I am not worried about eating or paying my rent, but I have when I was younger.)

That's a really good point too. Same for me. If my kid was hungry I'd create a story that would have most people drowning in their own tears.

I'm always a sucker for the sob stories on here. If I see one you bet I'm going to upvote and resteem it haha.

the wise @whatsup, this post needs more attention!

Lol! You should sell safety locks for triggers. You'll be rich!

OMG, my career path finally makes sense! Whew. (lol)

For real! I mean that's pretty much what you just did..I'm impressed.

It really isn't the end of the world, but it's annoying as ...

I remember, when I had to hustle for single votes and I can understand it well enough.
It's not like the big guys here aren't doing the same. They are just a little more subtle about it.

I remember you clearly from my minnow days and our attempts at follow 4 follow and minnowsunited. :) We were still just trying to figure out how to play the game.

I was never in minnowsunited and never used that tag, but the struggle was real :D

Okay, while I just must remember you from steemit.chat then. Anyway, I struggled like heck.

The follow comments are a bit annoying, since I usually look to engage with anyone who comments... That being said, I either ignore them (behavioral training anyone?), or try to educate them and tell them why I won't follow them until they meaningfully engage with me.

Oh, and... can you follow me? ;)

hahahaha. I agree with your position.

nice capture..be my friend ..

Beautiful picture thanks mike

You are right. Following makes only sense when you like the content. Otherwise, it is just a number if you follow for no reason. But it brings no value at the end. Also no benefit for the rude requestor you will not like his posts.
I think those people are here for a while and then give up.
