This is the kind of curation I appreciate. You tell us about the people and what they've been doing. I've been annoyed with a lot of "curation" posts of late that are just making money by making a list of links to crappy content that may or may not be related to a theme of the curation. When the posts are that bad, I wonder if the "curator" actually read it, or just has really low standards and doesn't care...

This is a great way to "meet" new people! Thanks for sharing what you know about them, so we don't have to go digging too far to find out.

I've been trying to keep up with your posts on plagiarized memes, the trending page, etc. but I feel like I probably missed a few. I noticed you were getting flagged for sarcastic posts ... so I was wondering if you ever wrote a "statement" about why you're doing what you're doing. Something we could reference when we run across posts that lump you with other, bad "memers" (is that even a word? It should be...)

I don't really have a statement I just do what I think is right. My ultimate goal is to make Steem better than when I got here. Other than that, I just take it day by day and do me.

I guess I have more specific questions, but I don't want to highjack this thread (sorry that I already did!) :) Maybe there will be another opportunity to ask on a more related post! Thanks for keeping on!

Fire away, this is as good as place as any.

Okay, here goes! :) Were you trying to make a point with the "not-meme" you posted that made the trending page? If so, what was the point and do you think it was successful? What would you say to those who saw it as a decline in your endeavors / a way to make a quick buck?

(Going back to find the link, I realize this is 2 weeks old already :S Maybe you already answered these questions elsewhere and I missed them, so sorry if they're repeats.)

Were you trying to make a point with the "not-meme" you posted that made the trending page?

Yes, I was making a point.

The post consisted of four images:

  1. A meme posted by a dmania user
  2. Dmania upvote for $55.14
  3. Post pending payout of $69.37 w/ 86 votes
  4. Google search results showing it was stolen from Reddit and is a meme used on many sites and is not original content.

I started to write a long post talking about it, but then erased it and just make it simple, to the point, somewhat mysterious, and watch the reaction.

To top it off, the meme wasn't even funny, it was the ingredients to Nutella.

If so, what was the point and do you think it was successful?

Yes, I think it was. There was a lot of discussion in private channel with influential people. Awareness was raised to how dmania blindly votes and rewards mostly stolen content.

Will things change? I hope so, I'm still skeptical. I love the idea of dmania, I just don't like the execution. I love memes, but giving stolen memes $50 upvotes and creating a community of spam posters that consists of 90% stolen content posted 5 times a day by users with multiple accounts fishing for a dmania lottery vote is a bad idea and creates a flood of shit content that doesn't deserve to be rewarded.

Unfortunately, it is hard to tell if a meme is original, most of the time it takes 30 seconds, but sometimes it is more complicated than that.

I get memes are viral and meant to be shared, I'm good with that and in fact, I encourage it. Rewarding it, on the other hand, is bad for STEEM in the long run and right now the easiest way to make money/abuse Steemit is to steal memes from Reddit and post them five times a day on Dmania hoping you get lucky.

As I said before, I can create 5 posts a day for a week and still have time to watch a sitcom, all inside of an hour.

If Dmania wanted to they could apply a reverse image search before upvoting. They choose not to it seems.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! I thought that was the point you intended but now I can point back to this conversation if needed ... I stumbled on a comment thread that discredited you for abusing DMania. I wanted to jump in and say that you were trying to prove a point, but then I only had my own conclusions to draw from. It's helpful to have you verify it in your own words.

Also, good to know that you had some productive discussions with influential people! I was wondering if your point had been lost in the abyss. Hope we keep seeing improvements thanks to yours and others' efforts!

My favorite find of the week is @the-beard
So many gems on Steemit to be discovered 🤗

This is beautiful, i would advise you to go on with this because it could be of great benefit to exposing those guys who would be mentioned on subsequent editions who have been doing fine and re not been seen. You know how tough steemit is to those of us just coming up, its quite a strange land to new comers, especially those of us who have no money to invest here. So to me sir, you re good to go.

Great idea!! I’ll be watching every Friday from now on. Thursday’s with @meesterboom and Friday’s with @themarkymark

great post @themarkymark and the followers you just mentioned got me looking up their profile and bet what?

they are worth following. i would be following them asap. thanks for the list as i look forward to next week follow friday post

I think this is a great idea. I’m glad to see this is spreading around. It can never be a bad idea to stop what we’re doing every once in a while and tell the people around us that we appreciate them. Too often, we assume they know...
While appreciation is one if the things that drives us, right?

I’d say: keep doing this :0)

On top of that, let me tell you I appreciate you for giving me a list of interesting people to check out :0)
Of course I knew about @fulltimegeek (the man is a living legend), but the others were unknown to me, so I’ll go check out their profiles instantly.

Hello @themarkymark, happy to Steem you again! :-) Thanks for making me discover @fulltimegeek and the "Stewards of Gondor"!

What is @jesta 's project he had to give up, and could the community carry on with its development?

I'm gonna check out @makerhacks work too :-)

www.chainbb.com I don't think it will be gone forever, but at least right now it will be so he can focus on other projects.

Let me know when you are next on Fortnite @themarkymark and we can play! I'm on Xbox but luckily you can play cross-platform now.

Just generally speaking I like what you do and how you do it. One of the people I am always happy that I follow. So seeing those you follow gives me a sort of curated list that I can look at and possibly follow.

It is indeed Friday. Do you need me to send you a reminder next Thursday? :)

Thanks for doing what you do.

They seem to be great personals, it's a great initiative to keep showing the highlights of the week, you'll always meet great people so why not introduce them to us?

shot --> bum

I like @m2nnari

I love this project! Awesome people to follow

Is there a way to contact @jesta?

I would like to ask him something about steemdb?

He is on Steem.chat but he is frequently busy so just be patient if he doesn't respond right away. Make sure you leave your question and don't just say Hi and wait for a response. I get that a lot and it drives me nuts.

well it seem is good ideas!

i like people like @fulltimegeek

It's good to see others doing Follow Friday. I've no idea how many of these posts I've racked up. I like to get more exposure for those who deserve it

A great idea, it can be hard to find new quality content to follow on here. I'll be checking all these people out. Thanks.

This is a great idea. Nice balance in your selection and really cool to learn more about the huge network of people behind Steem which are helping it to grow and evolve.

Thanks for the shoutout! I really appreciate it. It's always a good time when were on, never would I thought I'd play fortnite and I actually hated the game lol but look at me now. So here's to many more matches! Thanks for being an awesome Steemian! I'm also going to check everyone else you tagged there's never enough good people you can meet out there!

What you have stated about @fulltimegeek is actually inaccurate. To some extent.

He launched the SOG (Stewards Of Gondor) and delegated almost all of his Steem Power to around 50 other Steemians. That is true. I were one of them.

However, he decided to pause the SOG program more than a month ago, and he undelegated all the Stewards.

He did that to fight the number one trending troll, and he has done that with full force ever since.

He is truly a whale everyone should be thankful for.

I did have that in my draft, but looking back I guess I didn't include it when I finally made the post.

Hey @themarkymark this is great I am also doing a similar initiative which has been going on for three weeks now called #shoutoutsaturdays. It would be great if we could each mention our initiatives on our posts perhaps so we can really try and get these trending, what do you think??
