Yes it really has been! I recommend visiting the Lao Xi Men (old west gate) neighborhood that I wrote a bit about last week. The neighborhood is in downtown Shanghai and has been scheduled for demolition to make way for the new malls and apartments, and there's a lot of old historical buildings that have less than a year left.
