For the eighth consecutive year, US News & World Report has highlighted the DASH diet as the best diet for a healthy lifestyle. But this year, DASH shares the first place with the Mediterranean diet . The two diets also hold the number one place in the Best Diet for Healthy Eating category.
The report reports 40 different top diets that are ideal from weight loss to managing diabetes and heart disease. This year, US News included two new diets on the list: the Keto diet and the Mediterranean diet. The Ketto diet is a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet and was ranked 15th in the ranking.
On the other hand, the Mediterranean diet has won the top position because it is the easiest one to follow , and it is an ideal solution to fight diabetes .
As is well known, the Mediterranean people live longer and are healthier than most Americans, as the Mediterranean diet is made up of fruits and vegetables, walnuts and legumes, seafood and olive oil, and less red meat, sugar and saturated fat.
"The Mediterranean diet is gaining more and more ground as it demonstrates its benefits for weight loss, heart, brain health, cancer prevention and diabetes prevention and control," said Angela Haupt, assistant manager at NPR Health at US News & World Report.
