Silly me burned by mouth with hot food in a cafe~

I was out and about yesterday when I decided to stop for a coffee and a bite to eat in my favourite cafe the Black Pepper. Here I was sipping on my small late - Angelo the Italian owner makes very good coffee; one of my good reasons for patronising this place, when my breakfast wrap was brought to the table.

The day was chilly and I had had a small breakfast of fruit so I needed and wanted something hot and wholesome to eat for lunch. I was hungry and just felt like a toasted wrap full of egg, bacon with a hash brown. Decadent I know but I was hungry! In hindsight, which is a very good thing, I should have finished my coffee while the food had time to cool down. It looked and smelled delicious and impulsively bit into the wrap.

Oh my, the hot mouthful burning the top of my mouth was terrible. My reflex kicked in and I politely spit it out quick. No-one was taking any notice of me in the cafe; everyone was far too busy talking. Ice is an excellent antidote to burned mouths and sadly I did not have any. The glass of water was not cold enough. There was no option other than to finished my late while the wrap was cooling. I did this and then nibbled gently on a now warm toasted breakfast wrap.

I took this photo of my food when it arrived at the table - I had not taken any pics of my food since my Melbourne trip. Little did I know what was going to unfold after this little bit of fun!

When I eventually arrived home after a 30 minute drive I sucked on a piece of ice which relieved the burning. But did not miraculously take away the injury. My new saying when hot food is delivered to my table at the Black Pepper.

Wait Angie, let it cool!

Goodbye from me and have a happy day

howdy @angiemitchell! yawser what a way to have lunch huh? Did that ruin the rest of the meal because of the pain?
I don't think there's much you can do to heal a burned mouth is there? I think you just have to give it a day or two to heal up on it's own.
boy, that lunch looked quite wonderful though!

You are right @janton about a burned mouth - it takes time to heal. My coffee is much warmer to drink at the moment - haha. The brekky wrap is a yummy bite to enjoy for sure.

I always want to go to every eating place you go to, especially those little coffee joints!

You are welcome @janton.

I did the same yesterday, with pizza. Pizza cools rather fast, but when we got it at the table it came right out of the oven ... and I was hungry and took a big bite ... big mistake! It still hurts.

Apropos sweet things, I've had the same experience with freshly baked croissants. They seem so harmless as they are fluffy, with lots of air ... but there is butter inside, the butter may be really sizzling hot if the croissants are coming directly from the oven, even if the croissant already has cooled down a bit on the outside.
