FORGIVE & FORGET?

Impossible, Never, Difficult, Not able to – our immediate reactions when we hear these words.
We live in a rat racing, high speed, overdrive world. Personal contact, relaxed discussions and decision making is more and more becoming a rarity. We are all forced to think on our feet and act with haste. Everything today is about competition – personal and business.
More the reason not to be able to Forgive and impossible to Forget.
To be able to forgive means that you need time to relive and sort out what happened. For this we need time. Hurt, disappointments, anger and shock cannot be confronted and digested without time.
No matter what the reason is, it is difficult. Being hurt is one of the most vulnerable experiences we as humans experience.
The only way to deal with it is to get another perspective. Look at the guilty party through the eyes of Jesus. See their hurt, motivation, past issues and circumstances. Most of the time, whatever happened was not directed at you as a person. They have been driven and motivated by their own insecurities, bitterness, hatred and pain.
Delve deep inside yourself to find the things you still have to be grateful for. Look around you and imagine how much worse it could have been.
Interact with other people who have experienced the same. They do not need to know what you are going through. Interacting, by listening to them and seeing how they handle their situations can only benefit you.
Nobody can forgive unless you make a deliberate decision to do so. Do it, you owe it to yourself. You are carrying a burden every day. It changes your personality and makes you a person you don’t want to be. And the other person? He or she enjoys life to the fullest not sparing your feelings a thought.
Forgiveness is possible, but to forget? That is humanly impossible. We’ll need medication to have Alzheimer’s disease. Only then will we be able to.
To forget means to be able to remember without your emotions being involved. Emotional memories always stay vivid and alive. When you remember without hurt and passion, the memories will fade and disappear into the past.
Work through your hurt and pain. Distance yourself from the situation. Restore your perspective. Cast of the burden and live again. It is easier said than done. It will take time, but you need to do it. You owe it to yourself.
