Investing in the Nigerian Economy: Cocoyam Potential

in food •  7 years ago

Cocoyam is a traditional staple root crop that can be found in Africa, some parts of Asia and around the Pacific. Cocoyam is a very nutitional root crop, even more nutritional than the popular cassava and yam crops. So it is indeed a shame that must research isnt being taken into cocoyam production as it holds high potential.

Over twenty states in Nigeria are capable of producing cocoyam with Ebonyi State leading the race. Cocoyam has high protein, mineral and vitamin content. Cocoyam could as be used as a type of "weaning food", which its leaves are cooked as vegetables.
