How to prepare a Brazilian fish dishsteemCreated with Sketch.

I'm not much of a cook, but my students cook every week on Friday during the cooking class. These lessons are provided by my colleague, who used to be a chef at the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam. We are lucky to have him as a teacher at our school now.

Last week the mother of one of my students was a guest teacher in the kitchen. She learned the students how to prepare a Brazilian fish dish.

Two of my students received a special assignment from me. I wanted them to make a recipe for the fish dish. One of the students needed to figure out all the ingredients and how the fish dish was prepared, while the other student made pictures during the lesson.

After the cooking class both students needed to work together to combine the text and the pictures to an appealing recipe, using MS Word to do it.

They worked on it for a few hours and the end result was pretty impressive. Keep in mind that the students I work with, all have learning disabilities and wrote it in Dutch.

I made a translation of the actual recipe. The students were not quite accurate with the exact amounts of ingredients and the preperation time, but I am confident that you can make someting out of it.

The recipe below is for approximately 10 persons.

Ingredients:

5 codfish

500 ml coconut milk

1 saffron

400 gr creme fraise

3 bell peppers

2 garlic

1 onion

2 limes

500 gram cherry tomatoes

5 spring onions

6 chili peppers

olive oil

salt and pepper

mashed potatoes

Preparation:

Cut everything into cubes. Peel the garlics and and squeeze them. Cut the onions and the peppers into small pieces. Marinade the coddfish with some oil, squeezed garlich, onions and peppers. Heat some oil in the pan and bake the codfish. Add the vegetables and bake until it's cooked the way you like it. Add the coconut milk and creme fraise half way.

Add some mashed potatoes and you are good to go!

Bon Appétit :-)

Looks very appetizing @bart2305, and what a great way to make your students work together and reflect over the assignment :)

Hummm, I love codfish! I always remember my grandmother!

Oh! They had me at saffron. Thank you for sharing!

That sounds like a line in a movie. 'You had me at Hello' or something like that :-)

Thank you very much, looking forward to trying this.

Enjoy! :-)

I do not eat fish, but the idea of cooking with your students is wonderful. Congratulations.
