This is the first time that I have ordered fresh young coconut prepared this way. Basically, the shell of the coconut had been removed on one half leaving a dome of coconut flesh. The other half has been cut into a cup.

From here, you can stick a straw in and drink the sweet juice inside. Once you have finished that, its a simple task of cutting the flesh open on the top to scoop out the remaining coconut. Practical ingenuity!
It was refreshing and delicious, and I've still got one more in the fridge. I wonder how long it took the vendor to cut it like that, but I appreciate his effort.
