As promised on my introduction post that I will be posting some recipes in my future blog.
This is my first ever writing a recipe blog. Who am I kidding?!? This is my first blog ever actually!! 👏🏻🙌🏻
So I thought I should pick some thing that easy to make and easy to decribe but still the dish that everybody is familia with.
Most of us has ordered this in the restaurant and it usually would take your breath away a little from the golden crispy bits of cheese atop the soup bowl.
Not to mention the gooey stringy melted cheese underneath that golden crispy bits when you start digging into to it.
So what am I talking about? It’s the decadent French onion soup. I sware it’s so easy you can impress your valentine date this Valentine’s Day if you are having a nice quiet evening at home.
Ok let’s start with the ingredients
Yields: 3-4 servings (depending on how big is your bowl) mine is 500ml bowl. I got 3 servings.
Red onion sliced 500g
Butter 25g
Beef stock (preferably homemade) 1300ml
French bread cubed 300g
Gruyere cheese, grated 75g
Some parsley for garnish
Salt and pepper to taste
Method
Melt butter in the heavy bottom pot.
Add sliced onion into the pot.
Lower the heat to medium-low
Cooked the onion untill brown. Make sure to stir them often. Helps the browning more even. This will take about half an hour. You can’t rush this stage or the onion won’t brown evenly.
Add the stock. Bring it to a boil. And let it simmer for 20 mins. To make sure that onions are soft.
Season your soup with salt and pepper
While the soup is simmering
Heat up the oven to 350f°
Spread the cubed French bread on a baking sheet. Drizzle olive oil on the bread. Toast them in the oven for 20mins or untill golden.
To serve
Turn up the oven to broil 500f°
Pour the soup into the serving bowl (heat resistance)
Add toasted French bread on top.
Then top with grated gruyere cheese.
Put the bowl under the broil for 3-5 mins
Keep an eye on the bowl as it will brown quickly.
When the chees is bubbling and starting to turn golden brown. Your soup is ready!!
Sprinkle chopped parsley before serving.
I hope my recipe is easy to follow. If you have any question or suggestion please let me know.
And I do hope you try this at home. It is a very easy soup to make. And let me know how it turn out if you do decide to make it.
Bon appetit!!
