Eating Some Unusual Chinese Grub. Scorpion, Grasshopper, Fried Squid, Donkey Meat And More.

It's no surprise that in many Asian countries you can find weird edibles. Growing up I've always heard that the Chinese eat many crazy things when compared to American culture. Being that I live in China, I can attest to that. So there's this street in my city of Jinan called, Furong. It's a very Chinese cultured street with ancient Chinese architecture. It's laid out with lots of alleyways between buildings with a natural spring located at the center. Throughout the main street of Furong are tons of shops, restaurants and good ol' street food of all types.

It's within this street where you can easily find unusual eatery when compared to the states. Just like the title describes, I ventured down Furong with a friend of mine and tried several things out.

IMG_20170627_200420.png Fried Squid. This actually wasn't that bad.

IMG_20170627_200352.png Fried scorpions. Not really enjoyable, personally.*

IMG_20170627_200334.png Fried grasshoppers. Just like the scorpions, this wasn't appetizing.

IMG_20170627_200309.png Donkey meat. Out of everything that i had tried on this day, this was my favorite. Donkey meat actually tastes good. They stuffed it inside a round Chinese bread call shao bing with some veggies.

I actually have a YouTube video showing my friend and I strolling through Furong street and eating these things. We've received some hate and negative comments for video because people assume we are bashing the culture when we are not. All in all, we love China and authentic Chinese cuisine is beyond amazing. So if you're interested, give the video a check and subscribe to our channel if you're keen on learning and seeing more about Chinese culture and life. Enjoy!
