Ethiopian food

Ethiopia has a variety of delicious foods that are guaranteed to leave long lasting impressions on your taste buds. Most of the dishes are spicy and almost all are eaten with your hands (no utensils). The communal way of eating where you would be sharing your food on a large tray with your friends is something unique.

The photo below is a combination of three dishes over the soft spongy bread that is called Injera.

Resting on the Injera, to the left is the "Kitfo" which is red minced beef massaged with spicy Ethiopian butter and chilli powder (that also is flavoured the Ethiopian way with different other ingredients). Right at the middle is the "Gomen". The recipe site http://www.savour.com describes Gomen as "Fragrant collards cooked with an Ethiopian-style spiced butter flavored with cardamom, fenugreek, and nigella seeds." To the right is the "Tibs " which is lamb chunks roasted/fried with onions, peppers and Ethiopian spices. You can also see Cottage cheese and salad.

This is rich combination of wonderful delicacies and I hope you would go out to find an Ethiopian restaurant in your area and try the food and see if you won't return to that same place again. I am confident you will get hooked.
