To my foodie Steemians "Kon'nichiwa!!! " I wanna present to you this famous Japanese bread recipe called "Sakura Anpan".

What is "Sakura Anpan"?

There is something about this sweet roll that became very famous in Japan and even it continued to be popular up to this present day. Sakura sweet rolls or commonly known in Japan as "Anpan" is a traditonal bread originally made by Yasubei Kimura (1875) that is filled with bean paste.

This Anpan bread was then presented to the Meiji Emperor and for luck the Emperor loved the taste of it. In fact he even told Yasubei to send him Anpan everyday. Since then, the bread became famous when Japanese people knew it's the Emperor's favourite they began to like it too.

So I went to the grocery store today to get a pink dragonfruit for my coloring but unfortunately while shooting the video I was astonished that it's a white baby.

How could I....

(Watch this youtube video for full recipe)

Panicking, I thought I really, really needed the color pink, I really want my Sakura to have that girly girlaloo pinkish color. So I found a way. I scrapped the dragonfruit skin which is basicaly pink and blended it together with the fruit and boom! I got a pink coloring for my dough. Haha!

The tragedy didn't stop there. Alright I started baking my Sakura babies and once they hit the oven, deng! They evolved into monster yellowish babies! Why oh why? I'm kind of disappointed but it's fine. My pink babies are gone. Now it's grown into a yellow big sakura. So goodbye to the pink babies.

Well, I'd redo this recipe next time but probably gonna use beet instead to retain its pink color. Haha. Anyways, learning lessons never stop. They just teach you how to get better.

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a medium heat, boil white kidney beans in 3 cups water for 10 mins.
  2. Drain and wash the beans using a strainer and reboil it again with 2 cups of water for another 5 mins or until tender and soft.
  3. Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, add spelt flour and salt and mix well. Set aside.
  4. Using a blender, add dragonfruit and a cup of water and pulse. Drain the dragonfruit mixture using a strainer and reserve dragonfruit water.
  5. Add yeast to the dragonfruit water and set aside for 2 mins.
  6. When the white beans are soft enough, remove from heat and drain it using a strainer carefully pressing down the beans to make a paste. Discard white bean shell residue from the strainer.
  7. In a low heat, add the bean mixture into the pan, stir and add coconut sugar gently mixing it to combine for 2 mins and remove from heat.
  8. Preheat oven at 320F / 160C.
  9. Add the dragonfruit mixture to the flour and and combine. Knead the dough for 5 mins. Let the dough rise in a covered bowl for 20 mins.
  10. When the dough is ready and doubled its size, form a ball and divide it into 10 equal sizes.
  11. Roll each slices and form small balls. Flatten it out, add the bean mixture and wrap it to form a bigger ball. Flatten it out again, make five slits, hold each end of the slit and pull it together to shape it into petals. Do it five times to make five petals.
  12. Bake for 10 mins at 320F / 160C. Top the center of flower sweet rolls with your favorite topping (nuts, cacao, chocolate drops or berries).

I have to be honest with you guys. I don't really call it vain or self adornment but I am just addicted to watch my food videos. It feels like a meditation for me. I'm not talking about myself making the video itself but what actually it is is basically the sound and art in the kitchen. The sound of the fork, the spoon, the knife, the cutting board, the water, the mixing, the squeezing, the blending and everything in it sounds like in a grand symphony: a kitchen live music. For me, it is just sooo soothing. It's the reason why I put audio on my videos so you guys can experience a different way to watch too. So I wanna share you some of videos here:

OMGosh! Those look so good- and the first step isn't one I would have ever guessed-

In a medium heat, boil white kidney beans in 3 cups water for 10 mins. and the first step...

Thanks for visiting @goldenwane :) Yes, hehe I agree. The first thing that would come to your mind when making bread and pastries is basically about flour. But this recipe is a little bit different. The white beans are for fillings. Boiling it first will save time so it's gotta be the first thing to do. It'll take around 30-40 mins to fully cook it and soften it. :)

Looking so tasty...i think i need to try this recipe..😍😍

Thanks for dropping by @roki70 Tell me how it goes. :) Have a good day!
