Kona beer was recently hit with a lawsuit by two people who claimed that they had been misled into thinking that the beer was brewed in Hawaii and that therefore they had been overcharged.
As you can read on their website, Kona beer has breweries in Oregon, Washington, Tennessee and New Hampshire in addition to the original brewery in Oahu which only bottles 12,000 barrels a year.
They do monitor the recipes of their satellite breweries carefully, even making sure the minerals in the water replicate that of the water used in Hawaii.
