Lactose-Free: Review Of Ben And Jerry's Non-Dairy Cherry Garcia Almond Milk "Ice Cream"

in food •  7 years ago

Many don't know but I am lactose intolerant. It's not a big deal really but there are certain dairy items I can't handle whatsoever; even if I take Lactaid before and after I eat. Ice cream is the main I absolutely can't handle since I have gotten a little older. I have been on the search for a good alternative and have yet to find one that tastes good and doesn't cost a fortune.

Today I am going to be reviewing Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia "Ice Cream" that's made with almond milk instead of actual milk.

It isn't horrible but it isn't my favorite ice cream ever. It's like when you want pizza but instead of delivery, you get DiGiorno. It wasn't that expensive compared to others I have seen. That's a point in the pro category.

It has quite a few calories for just a small amount( 240 calories in a half cup). The regular Cherry Garcia has 240 calories in the entire pint!

It has a pretty good taste at first. It's not really creamy but I've tried others and this consistency is the closest I have found to the real thing. However, it leaves a weird taste in your mouth but it's hard to explain what it is. I think it's most likely the chocolate which tastes good but has a gritty texture. The texture reminds me of expired chocolate ice cream texture and the grittiness kind of leaves that taste of expired ice cream on my taste buds. It's not extreme, but it's there.

A great thing about this ice cream is it was the same price as the regular Ben and Jerry's pints ($4.28 a pint in my part of Tennessee). There are some other brands that I am going to review for all the lactose-free people like myself.

This deserves 3.5 stars out of 5 from me:)

Good to know, i hope we get it here in germany soon

Yes hopefully you do! It is a good option to have when you want ice cream but don't want to be sick!

I have Irritable colon but i love the tast of ice cream this could be a solution

Can you have almond milk or cashew milk? I know some that can't but if you can this is a good solution for when you're craving ice cream:)

Cool review. Have you ever tried the Peanut Butter and Cookies Non-Dairy from Ben and Jerry's? That's probably my favorite one they got. I'd have it over most ice cream even. It's very tasty and kinda addicting lol. :)

Thank you! No I have only tried this one in the Ben and Jerry's brand but I have tried a few other brands that I will review in the next few days. I love anything with peanut butter and I love cookies so I will have to try that one next time I get to town:)

You're welcome! Yes, definitely give it a try. I'm sure you'll love it! :)

The ben and jerries are so-so in my opinion. Good, but not mouth-watering. Better than most ice cream, and milk-free (if you choose), sure, but not the best.

Look for the so delicious cashew-milk ice cream, the vanilla and oreo one is my favorite.
Literally the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had in my life, super creamy, sickeningly rich (I like bland foods usually so I am fully satisfied with just a few bites), and soft :3

They aren't the greatest but we live in a small town so there aren't that many options here, unfortunately. I think maybe Kroger might have that brand I just haven't been in there in a while. I will have to make a point to stop and buy the So Delicious brand because anything with Oreo's is a winner in my book:)
