Hey Guys! Valentine Day is coming!

For anyone who's planning to have it in Seoul, SOUTH KOREA
Here's some fresh hint on places you don't wanna miss out .
You might ask why Japanese Fine Dining in Seoul? but just chill out. There are good reasons.

When I was in the States, I was more familiar with California Roll type of sushi, or Salmon/Tuna type of 'easy-going' sushi whenever I wanna bring up my Asian side. Some of braver enjoyed Ikura (Salmon eggs) or Uni (Sea Urchin) but I yakked at them in my teen age.

Then, visiting 'Conveyor Belt Sushi - 回転寿司' at busy Sibuya street in Tokyo was another 'exotic' foreign experience to me.

It was far later when I fell in love with new form of Japanese dining - 'Omakase' sushi.

Idea that peculiar menu served directly to your hands made my curiosity exceed the care on budget. We wanna try something special on special day, but steak & wine could be mundane, huh.

For those who still wonder what Omakase is,
it's simply put, 'Chef's choice' at the sushi bar counter.

According to the most accurate source of my research (which is Wikipedia),
Omakase (Japanese: お任せ Hepburn: o-makase) is a Japanese phrase that means "I'll leave it up to you" (from Japanese "to entrust" (任せる makaseru)).

Aside from the original headquarter of Omakase kingdom, Japan, Seoul is becoming more and more Omakase sushi opening, pricing from 35 to 300 US dollars (for lunch), which could be cheaper than Ginza or New York.
I wouldn't argue that original and better Omakase sushi is available in Japan,
however,
Here are good reasons why you wanna hit Omakase in Seoul on this Valentine's day.

  1. You can taste Japanese dining at reasonable price in Seoul without visiting Japan.

  2. You can sit next to each other at the bar, having relatively private time.

  3. It's cultural experience; you watch chef performance like a show, having conversation directly with the Chef.

(4. You can upload onto your Instagram)

If you're one of these .. you might not wanna choose Omakase.

  1. You're very picky that you prefer order what you know already.
  2. You don't want to have surprised bill. (but they do have approximate menu and price)
  3. You emphasize cost-effective meal.

In my next writing, I will present some of the recommendable Omakase sushi places in Seoul.

Please feel free to share any other thoughts/experiences on Sushi and Omakase, I am eager to learn :)
