Not all peanut butters or other nuts are healthy. Do not be fooled by the cover even if it says "Natural" "Reduced fat" "Low sodium" "Low sugar" "Low calorie" etc.
Most nut butters that say low "something" or reduced "something", were added some other unhealthy ingredient,
now I will share three simple tips that you can use to recognize a 100% natural peanut butter.
1. List of ingredients: this is the key # 1 to verify whether or not it is healthy. In the list of ingredients should appear first of all the dried fruit of which butter is made (peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, etc).
The following ingredients should NOT appear on this list:
- Oils (the most common is palm oil, terrible!)
- Sugar, fructose, glucose, sucrose, sucrose, maltose, maltodextrin, starch, etc.
- Syrups or syrups of any kind
- Dairy products
2. It must contain LESS than 140 mg of sodium per 2 tablespoons of portion.
You can have added salt as long as in the nutritional information the sodium is below 140 mg in 2 tablespoons (if it do not have, that would be better)
3. It can be sweetened with STEVIA
It sounds good but in reality it should not have any kind of added.
wow! thanks for sharing, I like peanut butter so much
