New Culinary Adventure Company Teaches You How To Forage For Herbs and Seafood

A new culinary adventure company, Cod Sounds, in Newfoundland, Canada, is changing the way that people eat by taking them on an adventure that has the customers forage for local herbs and seafood.

"It's about introducing people to a very old way of life here," says owner and operator Lori McCarthy.

Cod Sounds describes itself as a culinary excursion company, that was created to help bring people back to knowing a way of life that has been lost in Newfoundland and other areas.

The experience helps teach people how to live off the land and find things that they can eat that might be located right in their own backyard or neighborhood. This tour specifically however will be focusing on items found locally in the Newfoundland region.

The culinary adventure will teach those taking part about which plants they can look for to cook, including things like:

rosemary,

scotch lovage,

and sea rocket.

McCarthy urges foragers to do their homework before going out and she says that for her it is about finding things in the wild that she can substitute so she doesn't have to buy them in the supermarket.

After looking around for whatever food items they can find, the group will then head to another beach location where they will light up a fire and begin to prepare supper.
