Whole30, Day 3, and today a wee miracle occurred.
If you have been following this riveting saga, you know that I am eating a very clean diet for 30 days to see if it helps with some chronic body aches. You know that ankle and wrist pain went away yesterday, on only the second day of this experiment, and that this wasn’t too astounding since I had really whooped it up over the holidays, eating far more sweets and treats dairy and grains than normal. The ankle and wrist business wasn’t part of the regular discomfort list until Thanksgiving when said whooping began. So, it wasn’t a huge surprise that pushing my chair back from the trough a bit had some beneficial effects relatively quickly.
The little miracle today though was my lower back, and this one genuinely does astound me. I woke up this morning, the key word here being “up”. For the last couple of years, possibly longer, I have been unable to stand up straight first thing in the morning. I wake up with my lower back kinked up. I walk into the kitchen every morning all hunched over like a candy cane and need to sit in a chair at the kitchen table drinking coffee for about 15 minutes to let it unkink. The discomfort isn’t horrible, and I would be drinking the coffee anyway, so it hasn’t been a massive problem actually. I’m in my mid 50’s. You expect some stiffness right? It’s interesting how easily these things can begin to seem normal.
But none of that happened today. I still walked into the kitchen to make the coffee, but I looked less like a candy cane, more like a, what? A cheese stick? And my back didn’t hurt. I still made the coffee and sat drinking a cup at the kitchen table, true. But I didn’t have to. That was nice.
It is only one day, maybe the back pain will come back tomorrow. But it seems significant because it is the first day in at least 730 of them that didn’t feature a kinked up back. These Whole30 people might be on to something.
What I ate today:
Breakfast: Eggs, mushrooms, cauliflower, coffee
Lunch: Salad with lettuce, raspberries, celery, apples, tuna, vinegar
Snack: Almond milk, apple
Dinner: Pork chop, cauliflower rice, green beans, orange, handful of nuts

Thank you. It feels like a useful thing to do. It has really shown me how much sugar is in my diet, even though I normally avoid it. Sugar and wheat. They are so prevalent. Thanks for reading.
