Food Review in Portland, Oregon (about the PERFECT restaurant in historic building; $1 oysters; TURTLE soup; Asian food, and pretty place for breakfast!)

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

Portland is famous for amazing parks, forests, waterfalls, and great urban planning, but I learned that they also have very good food! I feel like I should make two separate posts about this place, one about restaurants and another one about outdoor adventures and some cool places that I have visited.

Let's start from the highlight of my vacation… it was at the Raven & Rose restaurant.

Raven & Rose

Raven & Rose building is one of the earliest buildings that was built in Portland. It was William S. Ladd’s (Portland Founding Father) carriage house. Ladd brought architect Joseph Sherwin from England to design his Carriage House in the English Stick style in 1883. Most buildings were demolished, but this one had a different fate! For over 130 years, it has been used as retail shops, a warehouse, business offices, private residences, a music studio, and artist's studio, a prizefighting arena, and now used as a restaurant.

To be honest It’s been a while since I ate at a such good restaurant! Food was amazing! Atmosphere was great! This is officially my favorite restaurant! Yes, I ate at many other amazing restaurants, but this had everything I needed for a perfect night! The place had great Belgian beer, my favorite food, lounge area with live music, delicious cocktails and wine, free pool table, great sitting, and exceptional service.

So, this is the table we got, right by the kitchen. I specifically requested this one because I thought it would be fun to sit by this beautiful wood fired oven and see how they cook the food.

(Me and Alex @nerdy.alex enjoying food and beer)

While we looked at the food cooking, we ordered a bottle of Belgian Barrel Aged beer. It's a pretty strong beer, but very tasty and sweet. We even ordered another one later, this is how good it was.

We started with black mussels in a creamy broth with some thai seasoning and beef tartare. Both appetizers very delicious! I’m a big fan of tartare dishes and this one did not disappoint.

Then, we got our lamb steak and a dish called “West Cork Rabbit Two Ways” with chantellers. So good!!!

And for desserts, we got a really good chocolate cake and ice cream with pecans and bananas (I think that's what it was). Even, ice cream was good here!

Later, we went upstairs to their lounge area, where we listened to live music, played pool game, and tried their cocktails and wine. It was a fun night!

I am seriously considering to travel to Portland again just because of this place!

And here are some of the other cool places to eat in Portland, Oregon…

YakuzaPDX

Great Asian cuisine restaurant, but nothing too fancy. Fresh fish and nice ambiance.

Extremely cute place with lots of chandeliers and mirrors. Great for breakfast or brunch.

Eat: An Oyster Bar

$1 dollar oysters during Happy hour (Happy Hour daily 3-5pm and whole day on Sunday, I believe, but double check in case anything changes). They Had 3 different types of oysters for very cheap and they were fresh! I say it's amazing! But this place is not pretty, in fact it kind of looks trashy, but food is fine.

I tried turtle soup for the first time here! It was tasty but nothing too crazy and I would never think there was a turtle meat if I was not told.

Also, They had very decent flog legs. It's a place where you can get bar food.

Next post will be about Portland's outdoor scenery, museums, and other fun places :)

That beef tartare!!!!!!!

I know! it makes me hungry every time I look at the picture.

Those foods are tempting me, and the restaurant ambience is great.

@ella-kay this is really a detailed review of restaurants you visited along with the great food. Though I am a vegetarian but the photos are detailed and awesome. I really liked the desserts pic. You are looking fabulous and beautiful too.
