Bingsu - The Best Korean Dessert in Town

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

Korean fanatics or not, here is another blog that will surely steal your heart.

As we all know, dessert is a sweet food usually eaten after a meal. But there is also no rule that says that it cannot be eaten stand alone.

One of the most popular icy dessert in South Korea is the bingsu and Philippines is starting to get in the trend as many Filipinos are raving about this.

Korean bingsu is a shaved ice dessert with milk and syrup topped with fruits and other bunch of ingredients. It isn't only appealing in the eye, it also tastes so good - your tastebuds will be delighted.

I was able to try two of the most popular Korean dessert cafe here in Manila which offers Bingsu: Hobing and Cafe Seolhwa

If you need to chill during this hot and humid weather, you might want to visit these cafes. I ought to give you my honest verdict of who did it better when it comes to Bingsu.

Hobing Korean Dessert Cafe

This famous dessert cafe already has a lot of branches within Manila, Makati and Quezon City. The nicest branch I've been to is located at 3/F Bonifacio Stopover, 31st St. cor. Rizal Drive, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila.

The place is cozy and spacious plus they have a big LCD screen where you can watch or listen to music videos of Korean songs so you'll really feel the Korean vibes while dining there.

Choosing from their dazzling menu is the hardest as there are a lot of options to choose from but we ended up ordering one large Strawberry bingsu, one large choco cookie bingsu and 1 small mango banana graham bingsu. A large serving is already good for 2-3 persons and you'll get to choose whether you want whipped cream or ice cream on top. Of course, we chose ice cream! 😁

We were advised that the best way to eat it is to avoid mixing it as every part is already flavorful. The good thing about it is that the shaved ice do not easily melt so we were able to take plenty of pictures of it. 😋I also love that the serving of fruits are abundant. Just look at these strawberries! We had every bit of it until we reached the bottom.

Aside from their bingsu, they also serve other foods and snacks such as toasts, tea, pot pudding and korean rice cakes. We ordered spicy tteokbokki to be able to try it too. You are to decide for the level of spiciness that you want. We loved it but we weren't able to finish the rice cakes in it because we're already full.

Cafe SeolHwa Korean Dessert Cafe

It was one evening night when my team mates decided to go for a food trip. And this happened to be our first stop. Dessert came first this time. 😋

This cafe is located at 2/F Forum BGC South Global, 7th Ave. cor. Federacion Drive, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Philippines. The place is well-dimmed in contrary to Hobing which has a bright atmosphere. It also has a winter theme with what seems to be a 3D painting of a cute penguin and a polar bear.

They offer 9 snow ice desserts of different flavors and toppings. We decided to go for 1 large serving of Berry cheese bingsu and 1 large serving of milk brownie bingsu.

I love that their Bingsu can last up to 30 minutes before melting so you have more time to take photos of it (this applies especially for food bloggers). It's also surprising that upon eating your way in the middle, there is another layer of toppings.

They also serve other foods similar to Hobing.

My final verdict?

•They have the same price. One small serving ranges from 190-250 depending on the flavor.
•Tastewise: Seolhwa's shaved ice has a finer texture but Hobing's bingsu has a lot more fruit toppings especially the strawberries and mango which I love. But both tastes really good.
•I like Hobing better when it comes to the cafe set-up and the ambiance. They also have a self service water station. You can opt for a plain water, lemon water or their Korean tea which is placed in a clay jar.

Overall, I think I like Hobing Korean dessert cafe better. ❤

Oo sis hehe super In sila ngayon. Pero infairness nman talaga sa mga foods nila masasarap 😁

Mas masarap ang strawberry, mahilig ka din pala sa korean foods @enjieneer

Strawberries din talaga ang favorite ko. Haha. Pati ung berry cheese kasi strawberry with cheesecake sya

well im definitely gonna try those if i ever went to Korea !!

You do not need to go to Korea to be able to try this. There are plenty of restaurants here in the Philippines offering these.

Then im gonna try those if i ever to Philippines !!

Tsk!

You are such a korean food lover sis. Natatakam ako.

Nakakagutom naman neto. Gusto ko ding i-try. I just live in Taguig as well. Is it really worth it?

For me sulit siya. Two people ang pwedeng magshare sa isang small bingsu kung gusto nyo lang nman itry. Mango & strawberry with cheesecake, choco brownies and yung mango banana graham yung mga nagustuhan ko so far. 😋

Cool. Libre moko? Haha, kidding. Thanks!

Korean food looks so good!
