Buko Pie in the Philippines

in food •  8 years ago

Hey Steemers!

In the Philippines, a trip to Los Baños, Laguna calls for a visit to The Original Buko Pie Bakeshop. Aesthetically, the place is unimpressive, as seen below.

However, it's home to the warm goodness of this famous buko pie.

What is buko pie?

It's awesome. That's what it is. It's a custard pie made with young coconut, and at The Original Buko Pie Bakeshop, it sells for 200 pesos (about $4).

Some locals prefer the buko pie that's available at a competitor next door to this place, but seriously, The Original Buko Pie Bakeshop is awesome.

If you're ever by Los Baños, Laguna, be sure to check it out!

Years ago, during marshal law, we drove from Manila through Laguna to Pagsanjan Falls. At that time, there was buko pie being sold at the roadside.
Masarap !! I can almost still taste it.
