STARTING A START-UP

THE WAY WE EAT TODAY

A couple weeks ago Farmed Today held its soft launch, through which we actually validated our startup. Here’s how we got there, if you are thinking of starting your own startup, you just might want to read this. We’ll discuss the various steps of what we went through and how we maneuvered our way from concept to actually having products and sales.

The idea – How we started
It all started with an idea of a young man that looked at the current food infrastructure and wanted to make a change. This young man, Demba Lehrer, came to me with the vision and after months of working on the actual strategy, we felt that we were ready. Now what? We started with the formalities in registering the company and got our affairs in order, in Februari 2017 and even got another team member, Ben, who is now in charge of sales and really crushing it on that end. So what happens when you’ve setup the company? What’s next?

Validation – On the road
We kept it simple and setup the website along with the various social media accounts with the little available resources that we had.

Although we felt confident about our business, we were grounded enough to know that we had to further validate it. It may seem very scary and not too appealing to do but having someone trying to breakdown your idea from all sides can be a good thing because you can learn from it and take it as constructive criticism. You may ask; what is it that Farmed Today does? At Farmed Today we are setting up an online marketplace for healthy sustainable food. A marketplace that aims to give better margins to farmers and other foodpreneurs while at the same time making sure that foodies can benefit from all of it. Coming back to the validation, we went to multiple events to talk to numerous business experts to get their unbiased opinion on Farmed Today. You can do this however you want, the one thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need to know what advice to take and what advice to brush off.

Test run – Trial and error
As mentioned earlier, we had our first test run. It was truly exhilarating having our first clients come by and pick up their order. With the amount of orders that we received, we validated our startup, now it’s just a matter of scaling up at a good pace.

Next steps

We are currently gearing up for our expansion to delivering at home to our customers plus we have various foodie events in mind to add even more value to them.

Since we are also still looking for additional funding, please let us know if you’re interested to invest in us or check us out here.
