Here in the Netherlands, you will find many supermarkets selling Appelflappen. This is a puff pastry filled with apples. My husband usually buys it but I thought: Hé, let me make it myself! I am not even sure how to pronounce it if you're not Dutch. I think if you are American or British and try to pronounce Appelflappen, I would laugh.

I love the crispy and shiny look from the outside and the soft inside. The best appelflappen are the ones that is made in our own kitchen. I usually don't eat appelflappen but homemade is really addictive I have to say. I just ate 3 appelflappen :-(. It's really dangerous!

While waiting for the apple pieces to cool down, you can already take out the frozen puff pastry sheets fromt the freezer and thaw them separately.

Make some holes with a fork in the pastry sheet and place 1 spoon of apple pieces in the centre of the sheet.

Fold the pastry and close the edges with a fork. Make the fork wet first before pressing the edges with the fork.

Place the apple pastry in a baking sheet covered with non-stick parchment paper. Brush the pastry with the egg and sugar mix and place them in the oven for 15 minutes.

Appelflappen fresh from the oven

You have to wait about 15 minutes before you eat your appelflap because they can feel cold from the outside, they are still hot from the inside.

In your previous post we talked about yucca this is an image of this root and it is delicious, but full of starch, that's why you can not eat it together with potatoes.

Yummm! These look like what we would call an "apple turnover", which we ate all the time when I was a kid. (Though I'm sure you really would laugh to hear me say "appelflappen". )

I've never made my own turnovers, and I have some puff pastry in my freezer, just waiting for me to make it into something delicious... I think these may be on the menu this weekend! Thanks for the inspiration!
