Biltong Pooitjie / Beef Jerky pot

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

Ingredients:

  • 3 chopped onions
  • 1 pack of fresh mushrooms (Optional)
  • 1 Pack of bacon
  • 1 Pack of  frankfurter sausages (Chopped up)
  •  1 packet cheese grilled sausages (Chopped up)
  • 1 Pack of Fusilli pasta
  • 720g Sliced Biltong / Beef Jerkey (I prefer 1kg, but it can get expensive then)
  • 250g Grated cheese

Instructions:

  1. Heat the black pot over a fire and cook the onions and mushrooms in some olive oil. (salt and pepper to taste)
  2. Add Bacon and cook (Stir frequently) for about 2 minutes
  3. Add the frankfurter and cheese grilled sausages and cook for another 5 minutes
  4. Add the noodles and one kettle (about 1L) of hot water.
  5. Close the pot and let everything cook together for about 20 minutes. (keep an eye on the pot and stir or add water if you feel needed)
  6. Add the biltong / Jerkey and stir through.
  7. Remove pot from fire and steam for 5 minutes. (lid on)
  8. Add cheese on top and steam again for about 5 minutes. (lid on)

Tips:

You can precook the pasta and add it to the pot with half a kettle of water to save time.

You can use any pasta you want and also can substitute the mushrooms for other veggies. (just cook through)

If you want to add potatoes, make sure it's cooked medium soft and then chopped up. (You will need to cook the pot until these are soft)

I usually like to add a cheesy sauce with the pasta when it all goes into the pot, but then you should not add water right away and only add when needed. (the mixture should be stickier rather than runny)
