Steak On The Rocks

It was a weeknight so there was plenty of tables for our big group of 10. We are quite a regular and the service is always quick. But tonight, somehow, it was dead slow.

It took them almost half an hour to bring out the steak on a rock.

Perhaps the reason for the slow service is that they weren't expecting a big group of ten to come in. They had to heat up the stone and probably cut the meat, who knows, but the wait time was definitely slow.

Per usual I ordered the rump steak with bearnaise sauce. These guys are the first, I had been to that serves this sauce. Albeit it's store bought and not house made, still tasted nice. It paired well with the rump.

The beauty with this set up is that you can cook the way you want your steak. Be it rare, medium or well done, entirely up to you. If you wanted it well done, it might take awhile, the trick is to cut the meat in smaller pieces so it cooks faster. You will lose some of the juices, but hey, you want well done.

For those who doesn't know the stone grill system this is brief explanation. You see that stone they give you is hot and retains heat for an hour. This method is now being implemented in restaurants all over Australia.

Here is an old video at steak on the rocks, showcasing the stone grill system.

You can opt to not use the stones and have the chef cook it for you. So this is another option for people who likes eating bricks. I have only asked the chef to cook my steak once and did a great job making it medium rare, no complaints.

So I got a 300 g rump steak with bearnaise sauce, together with vegetables and mash for $14. The vegetables compliments the buttery tasting mash really well by adding some textures and freshness.

I don't know why, but I was drawn to this clock hanging on the wall.

It doesn't even work.

The place itself is quite, umm, woody. Everything is made of timber furnitures, from chairs, benches and tables.
