Food Culture Series: Chapter 1, Pistachio

Today i will start a new blog series, it will be about natural and regional food culture in Turkey, World.

I will introduce you with new interesting foods, drinks and i will talk about their culture. So lets start with our very first chapter.

Pistachio, Aka Pistachio Nut

  • This fruit's mainland is Caucasus, Persiai, Turkmenia.

  • Main producers are USA, Turkey and Syria.

  • Turkey is the third biggest producer of this fruit.

  • Pistachios flower on trees.

  • When the outher fruis starts to being mature, the colour of this fruit gets darker and brown.

  • When harvest time is arrived, those fruits are falls to bottom of the tree.

  • Those green fruits cooked in many way and deserts.

This dessert made with hot sherbet and paste. You can add white ice cream on it.

This one contains cheese and pistachio, sherbet at same time. It must be consumed very hot.

At Turkey:

There is a Pistachio Searching Institute in Turkey. This institute contributes information about this food and recipes. It also work with chefs about education, training and consumption.

There is a another society named as Pistachio Promotion Society. This society travel around world and promote this fruit to another contries and regions.

I would advise eating künefe after a kebap. Then for sure you will not need any transportation to go home. you will be able to walk (even run ) home with the energy you gained :)
