The Story of a Curry : Chickpeas with Jackfruit! # Steemkitchen

in food •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hi Friends... Here I am with a recipe for preparing Chickpeas and Tender Jackfruit curry!

image

But the story behind this blog is much more interesting than the method of preparing it!!😉😀

image

I made this curry yesterday, and had the idea of sharing it here. But the cleaning and cutting of this jackfruit with it's sticky-gum took away most of my time, and I could not take step by step pics as my aged parents were waiting to have their food!! So I thought I would share it some time later when I get this jackfruit again!

But here, the season of tender jackfruit is almost over and we can get only the ripe ones now. So I thought it would be better to share it with a photo of the remaining curry, today!! ... ;) Thus came this blog!!

Anyways I am sorry for not having more photos, as I always do with my food - blogs!

Now lemme describe the method - How to prepare this Treditional, delicious curry!!

We need...(serves six)
Tender jackfruit - half(cleanly cut into equal size' pieces)
Chickpeas (Kabuli Channa) - 100 grams. (Soaked overnight)

Separately steamboil these two things first.

To make a Masala,we need...
Fenugreek seeds- 1 tea spoon
Cirriender seeds- 2 tea spoon.
Red chillies - 4
Tamarind and asafoetida a pinch each.
Fresh coconut powder -one full cup.

Grind these things to a fine paste using a mixer adding some water while grinding.

Make a seasoning...
Now take a deep fry pan, put one table spoon full of Pure Coconut oil, add some mustard seeds when it pops, add curry leaves. Now we have to add the pre-boiled Chickpeas and Jackfruit pieces to this and add the ground Masala and salt to taste. Let it boil for 3 to 5 minutes.

If the curry is thick, we can have it with Roties and Parathas....
A bit thin curry goes good with hot-steaming Basmati Rice!

So make it and share your experience with me here. If you know some more recipes, then you can also write a separate blog and share it with our huge Steemit community!!

Jackfruit is a good fruit mostly available in this season, in India as well as most of the South Asian countries. It is loved by all age groups.

seems yummy !
I have never cooked jackfruit. I must try out this recipe :) ...

Wow nice curry it is. I have never tasted this till now. But i ate the cooked one without adding curry. Its like a dry fry. And trust me its same as eating the fried chicken(but minor difference can be felt while eating). Next time i'll definately make a curry of jackfruit. Its the saason and fortunately we have two tree where more than 15 jackfruits are growing. I'll obviously share when i 'll get a chance to cook jackfruit.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. That's a new recipe for me aunty. Is it part of the traditional Mangalore cuisine? Jackfruit curry is my favorite only after Okra. We make it differently. We deep fry the prices of jackfruit(seeds are my mum's favourite) and then cook them in onion garlic and tomato gravy. Onions cooked till deep brown. I will try your recipe too :)

Very nice recipe swati..
