Whats in a (food) Name?

in food •  6 years ago

My home town is Pontefract.,That's right, where Pontefract Cakes come from. The word 'cake' I'm told comes from their shape as they of course, not cake-like at all in the traditional sense.

Pontefract was the home of liquorice growing in the UK for centuries, with a whole industry of growing, processing and making of sweets (candies) growing up here. More about that in another post.

So. How many items of food are there that have the name of a location as part of their proper name? No Countries and no cheeses, thats too easy lol

I just pulled out Pontefract Cakes, Yorkshire Pudding, Eccles Cakes, Lancashire Hot Pot, Cornish Pasty.

Pictures and names in comments please, especially interested about outside the UK
