@geopogi, you beat CNN to the punch. I first learned about his passing from your post. My wife and I attended a get together with him at Boston's Symphony Hall, where he discussed and interacted with the audience about his food happenings. It was definitely a treat, very entertaining. Every time I eat a dish of fried worms from a street vendor in Hong Kong I'll think of him.

I just was reading his twitter feed and was shocked to discover that the cause of death was suicide. He was found dead in his hotel room, according to CNN. Check out

He was universally loved and will be greatly missed.

@irakrakow this very sad news really hits me because his show is not only about food it’s about people, culture and story behind every different dishes.very sad news.

@geopogi, Sad for me as well. Cultures and societies are defined by their food. Think of pizza and spaghetti (Italy), tandoori chicken (India), pad thai (Thailand), etc., etc. Exactly as you say, when we eat another culture's food, we experience a physical bond and appreciation for the people associated with the culture. It's a basic human experience. Anthony Bourdain knew that and as a result he showed us our common humanity. He will be greatly missed.
