Japan, in general, is a fascinating place and a great place to visit. Their rich culture contains everything from Anime, technology, rich history and of course the food, like sushi. If you haven't heard about sushi you are living under a rock and is probably not reading this post. Oh well, sushi is a new phenomenon in the western cuisine but in fact, sushi has a very interesting history. Let's dig in.
History of Sushi
Sushi came to Japan 2000 years ago and it has its origin from Southeast Asia. A dish which is called narezushi which means salted fish. The salted fish is stored in fermented rice. In the beginning, people didn't even bother to eat the rice. However, when they switched from fermented rice to adding vinegar to the rice, the rice started to be consumed as well. Why the fermentation was eventually skipped was because of the smell narezushi processed. It is described as something like a mix of blue cheese, fish and rice vinegar.
