Da Bomb hot sauce: About as spicy as i care to go

in food •  5 years ago

I had seen this bottle in my local Tops supermarket on a number of occasions. I always passed it by because since it is imported it was always unreasonably expensive. This time, a bunch of sauces were on clearance and this particular one was marked down from $10 to just over $1. I'm not gonna pass that up!

It's just a 4oz bottle but according the labels I don't think that this has much practical application unless you have a death wish or a stomach made of lead. I had already prepped a giant pot of chili back at the house, so i figured I would give this one a go.

On a side note I just wanna say that chili is probably my favorite thing to make, mostly because it is almost impossible to do it wrong. Unless you don't have the correct spices (and I cheat and use the mixed spice packets) you can throw pretty much whatever in there and it is gonna be fine unless you forget you are cooking it and go out of town or something.

Anyway, Da Bomb Ghost Pepper sauce is rated at 22,800 Scoville Units which is a measurement of spiciness. To give you an idea of how spicy this might be, Tobasco is rated at about 1500 Units. I put a dab on my finger to try it out and it is a bit of a "time bomb" because at first it doesn't taste really spicy at all, but then it builds. It is pretty intense but fades pretty quickly, maybe like 10 seconds.

In my bowl of chili I put maybe a tablespoon of the stuff (bit by bit) and at that point it was about as spicy as I could handle.

You can see my stalker at the end of the table there and no, i did not give her any hot sauce

I wasn't disappointed as this sauce has some real fire to it and it also fades pretty quickly I like spicy, but the kind that just lingers gives me hiccups that wont go away. Da Bomb contains very little ghost pepper though and well it kind of has to since the juice of an actual ghost pepper is over 1 million Scoville Units.

There were other sauces at the same supermarket and I will keep an eye on them. One of them ranked nearly 300 thousand on the Scoville Scale and after trying this one at 20 thousand plus, i have to say I am a little bit scared of the "upgrade."

Man, I thought this was the same version they use on Hot Ones for the first 5 or 6 seconds I was reading that is called Da Bomb Beyond Insanity and is 125000 Scoville and apparently tastes fucking awful. I was gonna say, you could pay me a dollar to make you feel like ass and save the trip out of the house. Glad this version wasn't too bad though.

I've only went up to about 100k scoville hot sauce and that was pretty brutal. I'd like to eventually try some higher ones, but I'm afraid it will put me out of commission for the rest of the day. Another thought I have is maybe I could have some sort of 2-3 million scoville sauce put into a capsule to carry around with me like a suicide pill. But, you know, with more diarrhea and suffering.

yeah, beyond a certain point it can't possibly be about taste anymore. I think Gordon Ramsay actually was on "Hot Ones" and commented exactly that. It's just a novelty past a certain threshold. Something for that Catfish dude to eat and then chug a 5th of Fireball.

I may have already mentioned they have one that is 200,000 at my local supermarket. If it goes on clearance i will try it although probably just a thimble-full for an entire bowl of chili.

It probably helps dilute the heat a bit when you're adding it to a whole pot of chili. I was just a dumb ass and basically put a few drops onto my finger and licked it off, then realized how fucking dumb of a move that was. If you do try that bottle in the future make sure to let us know about it, dood.

LOL that is probably too much in the way of heat for most people alive lol. It was a great experiment though. I had been thinking about doing something like this awhile, but after I tried reaper hot sauce I could hardly make my way through my hot wings. I made it, but I was sweating.

The Carolina reaper is intense for sure. This sauce and the ones higher up on the scale are a novelty really...can't be used for much.

If this sauce was spread across wings without being dilluted there is no way I could have eaten them

Liquid lava! I use it to cook with, chili ect. It's almost too hot for direct use.

My grandfather always spiced up his meals sincerely they were very strong spicy, but after trying several times although in many cases it makes you lose the original flavor in many meals is a mixture so extreme that it makes you grab the taste for certain flavors for the spicy now whenever I can as spicy especially in the fast food stands that are on the street. Just great

I was going to say, 22,800 doesn't really seem that hot. That is right around the level of a serrano pepper I think which is pretty mild compared to a ghost pepper. I like hot stuff, but I don't handle it as well as some other people. I love chili too. It is so easy and fun to make. I always like to try mixing my recipe up a little each time.

Chilli rules! Plus it has almost no carbs

Are you a purist and leave the beans out or do you put them in there? I like it both ways, but I typically like a thicker chili as opposed to a thinner one.

i put kidney beans in, they are pretty low in carbs as beans go. Plus my dog likes them so if my spoon has a bad bean to meat ratio i take one or two out and let it cool on the table. Makes her happy so I'm for em!

That is awesome :)

I have seen this hot sauce a lot in a YouTube show called "The Hot Ones" have you seen it?

yeah, that's a great show actually. :)

Never touch your face when eating spicy food :-)

oh for sure

blast and fades, we can handle it..😁 LOl stalker... let her taste a bit of it..

a dog's palate is far more sensitive than mine... it might permanently disable her ability to taste anything. I am quite certain that she wouldn't eat it, because of the smell.

😲 🙏

I´m not a lover of spicy, but your sauce looks deilicious and provocative. Greetings, @gooddream.

Heck yeah! I love hot sauce! Especially if it's Da Bomb!
